Technical questions for the MPC2000xl and the MPC2000

Hi Guys,

Hopefully this will be my last post on this particular subject and I can finally get down to just using the damn thing without the limitations of these Zip disks.

After my research I have compiled this list of things I need to plug in a CF Reader (But not the expensive type from MPC Stuff)

I'm not sure about that card though, Looks like its too small? Is that everything I need? Are they the CORRECT compatible items?! I don't think I can take another failure! If someone that has done this could just check that I've got it right I'd be so so grateful..

Thanks DTD

The ebay link shows a pic of a CF card, which will work.

The reader needs to be able to physically fit inside a floppy drive bay.

The ide specs are fine with one. PM' W. Steele, he just did this with his 2kxl not too long ago, he can prolly give you specifics also.

Devontodetroit,

The list seems to be good. (just to make sure, you need CF card, not SD card.)
Addonics ADIDECFB works with MPC-2000XL, and you can use Sandisk 2GB ULTRA II CF Card (which is generally sold cheaper than Sandisk 1GB card, which is discontinued model)

This is not a hot-swappable CF reader. It means that XL sees CF card as a internal IDE hard drive, that's why it must not be removed during operation, and CF card must be inserted before booting XL.
Addonics' ADIDECFB's metal case must be drilled to mount in XL, as there is no holes on the bottom of the metal case.

Hi JVC, Thanks for the reply.. Is there another cheapish card reader you can recomend? One without the need for drilling?

As far as I know, Addonics' ADIDECFB is the cheapest and easiest to install IDE CF reader for XL. Yes, you have to drill two mounting hole, which is a bit time consuming, but you could use hot glue gun, if you really don't want to drill.

Take pictures every time you unscrew a screw so you know where everything goes.

Wrongs screws may cause a short later on. You don't need a tutorial, use your brain, pay close attention to what your doing and continue on. Good luck.

Are you serious about that wrong screws causing shorts thing?!

Anyways, i've installed the CFR (without drilling the holes just yet) and its now saying floppy disk not found.. DAMN!

Any ideas on things I should be checking out for??
