= a durable and extensive jjos2xl controller.

say what you want, but laptop keyboards feel awesome
when people say they don't like composing on a computer,
i really don't think that the keyboard is the device to blame.
because, of course, what is a keyboard but a (cheap, easily available) set of buttons?

^ very easy. there are groups that can print custom key stickers for very cheap. if this gets to be a trend MPC-stuff might have incentive to print labels, etc.

notice that there are 16 buttons on the top row.
assign them to each of your first 16 tracks.
hit them to instantly flick back and forth between them.
hold ctrl and hit one of them: MUTE.
hold alt and hit one of them: SOLO.

It's a bit more expensive than a regular keyboard, but the Typematrix has the keys unlabeled, and in a grid... I use one at work and love it, and have used it for launching clips in ableton on occasion :)

Not necessarily. With a serial keyboard you can make a stand-alone qwerty MIDI controller. Possibly even with with a usb keyboard.

adding MIDI out to arduino is as easy as adding MIDI out to arduino.

midi jack: 3 terminals.

line to TX
line to power with a 220 ohm resistor
line to ground.

very easy. i will likely be doing this (though you can code it to go directly out the USB jack) because i want to keep everything running through my midisport 8x8.

you could also record MIDI macros from your keyboard using a DAW, then assign what you just recorded to a new key.

Arduino is the answer to a large number of FRs, including ones that haven't been made yet.
it's time for us to take JJOS development in a lateral direction, guys. there is so much uncovered territory that needs to be filled by end users.

What happened with those new tact switches you put in? The metal ones. Are those fading on you already? I just bought 30 of those damn things and have my brother heating the iron for Thursday... Been looking for some good tact switches for my Fantom too. I can't do without these machines, but i don't want to control them through a computer. Explative.

no, the new tact switches are terrific on my 1st mpc1000.

this is a solution to control over my 2nd 1000, which is ES-K's old machine.
some of you may remember my "mpc1000xl" project - this is what i'm working on.
my problem was coming up with a good feeling and durable button array for that project. it's surprisingly hard to DIY this, so i thought of the most readily available set of buttons out there.

but i don't want to control them through a computer. Explative.

no computer involved if you use MIDI out with arduino.

Nice to hear that those tact switches are working out. I was afraid I might cut someone. I'm swapping all of mine, exept for the rec-play buttons since they are a different size. Did you find any that fit this size?
Actually that keyboard might not be a bad idea if you made them available as a kit. Could be nice as a remote for recording.
I wondered what happened to your xl project. Good to see you back at it.

Can you elaborate on this or show a link?

I know this is a tact post. You will need a rotary encoder or a slider to complete the button feature.JJ made it very simple and open.Nice work
