Hey!

What kind of new metal tactswitches are you talking about? I haven't heard any of that, so please share your information with me.

I just fixed my 2500 last night :D
New rec-gain-pot, new jogwheel-encoder, and 8 new tactswitches.
I buy my parts from http://www.renato-rizoli.com/shop/en/
Hi's a great dealer, I really recommend him for every MPC-user. Last summer I got a white screen from him and before that I got black knobs, cursor, jogwheel etc.
This time I was in serious need of a new rec-gain-pot because my old one was dyin out. I asked him for help and a few days later he had them in stock!! :D

So now I finally can sample with good clear stereo signal again!

Anyway - hit me up about the metal tactswitches!!!

^ true, but you miss out on expanded control.
once you have this, you cannot go back. ever. it's like using windows 98.

as far as i can tell i'm still the only person using MPC macros. this is a damn shame.
mikolo (and i believe TYPO) have made progress with their own uses of BUTTON mode.
i wonder what it will take for people to start taking better advantage of this.

An in-depth and well written tutorial would do it for me. At the moment my Axiom controls are mapped out to the MPC via CC's, but thats the extent of it.

You've mentioned doing some videos on a few occasions in the past. Make it happen.

Hey Nym

can you please give a description of the function the red circuit board plays in connecting the keyboard to the arduino?

yes. that is the usb host controller shield for arduino.
arduino by itself can connect to a computer via usb and act as a kb/mouse for the computer, but that's not what we want here. we want a keyboard to plug INTO arduino, which will in turn convert the keyboard data into MIDI output. that's why we need host capability.

as was mentioned you can do this without the host shield by using a PS2 keyboard, OR by being smart and using a USB keyboard with a usb->ps2 adapter. i can't find the link again but i've seen it done

your question actually helped me realize that you could use a modified mousewheel with arduino as a data wheel for your MPC. crack open the mouse, build an enclosure, set the rotary encoder in sideways, set up a larger platter for it, and you're off. this might be easier than sourcing a good compatible 3rd party encoder and modifying your 1k circuit board to fit it.

So what you're really telling me is that I should just use a nice clicky IBM Model M PS/2 keyboard with my Arduino for some MC500-style chunky key action.

Hmmm....

I suppose if you got really tricky with the macros you could possibly have a "text entry mode" where you could translate those ascii key presses on the keyboard into the rotary encoder increments to select the text characters for filename input.

It would probably be a bit slow, not as good as the direct keybpard inputs on the old (real) akai flagship models, but cool nonetheless.

I knew people would not get it.Let's keep this thread for innovation only please.
