Before there was MPCs there was.......

I have to admit, I am going back to the Old School setup. The MPC is fine, but everyones music is sounding the same over the airwaves. I have to break the cycle. Ppl are even sampling off of each other...Don't get me wrong it's cool; but in attempt to take it back a little I use 2 pieces of equipment. Roland MC-303 and the Roland SP-808. Sampling, Synths, and the abililty to record vocals, with a 100MB Zip Drive, off the streets, for less than what an MPC1K costs. Gotta feel me on this...Let me know what your Old School setup would be if you was trying to bring in a new sound, (or old, however you want to view it)::

I aint really sure how those pieces will give you an old school sound.
Then again we probably have different ideas of old school.
No diss intended at all.
If you're talking hiphop and on a budget , I'd grab two sk-1s , a four track and a $50 mic.
Now that's a tight budget.
I'd say you can cop all that for under $200 and maybe even $150 , depending.
Sh1t , that's all we had back in the day anyway plus some 1200s.
I did use the mc 303 back around 1999 or 2000.

Do you mean the Casio SK1?? Man, did I had fun with that when I was a 10 year old I spended hours playing that same bassy organ (preset 8, if I remember correctly) And recording my friends farts off course

Yo, that was like an MPC to me back then. You couldn't tell me sh*t!!!

But which casio was that which had 8 pads? 4 with sounds on them and four that you could sample on? I wanted one of those BAD but couldn't get the fundz to cop it

Back in the day, my set up was the Studio 440 and the Emulator II. All went into the Tascam 388. I had some really nice outboard compressors and stuff in those days also.

Yeah. I said the sk1. Didnt know anyone else made something with that model number.
