A lot of people always say stay away from default and stock sounds.
I've never understood why when most of those sounds are really nice when layered. A single stock sound is flat and lifeless yes but why can't peeps realize that layering them is key? It's like a trend to spread mis-information or something?!? I layer several of my stock sounds and it always works for me.

stock sounds are ideal for layering, first of all they are usually clean.
Ever layered a cut kick (from a break) with another cut kick from a break? ( and im not talking no 24 bit internet kit, im talking to cats who sample breaks from wax) you know how much processing is ionvolved with getting them to sound "right"
one shitty quality break kick, one 808, and boom.
