Is it playing the full measure, then stopping? Or stopping midway through? It won't re-trigger itself. You'll need to do that.

Seems to me that you'll have to familarize yourself with MUTing and SOLOing tracks, or maybe you know and its conflicting with each other. It happens, if a track is on solo and then you mute it, shit will inverse.

The Shift key might help when your in TRACK MUTE, press it. It flips things back into order.

I bought the book that is advertised on this site. I'm giving that a go.

The guitar riff plays to about the end of measure one.
When the sequence loops around it plays fine but maybe the third time it doesn't quite play properly.

I'm going to start over and follow the procedures in the book for setting up the programs just to double check.

maybe you applied some SWING settings to the guitar? that could make it's starting point vary just a little bit each time the loop repeats...

No I generally have quantized off for that sample. Swing is at 50% and can't go any lower or be turned off.

Well I abandoned a second set of samples for some that were professionally produced produced set of sounds that I got from this site.

I have one kit that I set up with theses sound on Bank A.
I am doing a sequence on tracks A1 - A4

Eight pads are involved.
A three pad conga on pads A 7,8,9.
Drums on pads A1, 2, 3.
Shaker on pad 10
Triangle on pad 12

Drums on Track A2-A4
Congas on Track A!
Triangle on Track A5

Tried to add a Shaker on A5
Sequencer is choking.

Sequencer is trying to play back now but is struggling all the way.....it is sputtering and stopped...and star-r-rt-e-ed and s-t-o-p-p-p......and.......Sheesh!

You definitely have a bad unit.

My next unit arrives on Friday. We shall see.

I did nudge my memory stick in a little farther. That seemed to help.

But get rid of that wet rag. I wouldn't tolerate a machine that reacts like yours even though my 500 doesn't act like that. Exchange, or sell it and get something that works.

What do you need the MPC for? Maybe there's a better alternative, there's plenty of samplers left in the market. Tell us what you need exactly and we'll help, but get rid of that lemon.

I have another MPC 500 arrive within a few hours.

I REALLY like the responsiveness of the pads on the 500.
The main reason I got it was the portability with the ability to do full productions on the go. That is without investing in a laptop.

I have NI Maschine at on my main computer. I just discovered a "vinyl" drum kit that I really like.

Hope the other MPC is better. I like banging our beats and playing loops as a mode of crreating music. I m-a-y be the type of person who buys his loops rather than creating them. Just for the convience.

Ill-Green, I appreciate the fact that you would be willing to help me with options for other samplers. Don't know that I'm there yet.

Cool, keep us updated. Remember that, when they come out the factory, they are defaulted by Akai's settings, so do your homework by adjusting and tweaking things to your liking first, like master volume and using fresh programs and sequences instead of recording over the presetted ones because thats culprit number one around here. Newbs do this and then ask why the pitch and volume is all over the place. Keep it fresh, not stale.
