Whats going on guys. I recently bought both an MPC 1000 (used), as well as a MicroKorg XL (used).
I bought a dual midi cable to connect the two, yet when i try to play the sounds from the korg, all it does is plays the sounds from the mpc on the piano keys, so im basically left with two devices playing the same sounds.
I want to play the sounds from the mpc, and the sounds from the korg (which comes with its own programs) simeltaneously. anybody have suggestions? :?

ok, so first of all let me make this clear, you wanna trigger your samples and drum sounds via mpc pads, and the synth via the keys. If so this is how it works. When you have both midi in and midi out running to both, the mpc recieves the date from the board then re transmits it back to the korg causing it to doubke trigger. If on the program (in the mpc)is drum sounds and you press the keys and it triggers the drum sounds then change program to midi from drum. Also you need to read the manual for the korg and find where you can turn "local" to off. what this does is it makes the keys no longer trigger the synth, onky note data to the mpc, but that is fine because the mpc will retrigger the synth for you.

yeah exactly i want the samples and drums that are on the mpc to play via mpc pads, and the synths that are already on the korg, to play via the korg keys. as of right now i have the midi out cable connected to the korg, which is linked to midi in on the mpc. also i cant find where to find where to turn local off on the korg but the manual is online here, if you have a second to check it out would be MUCH appreciated.

thanks alot for your help man

you need 2 MIDI cables... keyboard's midi out to mpc's midi in... and keyboard's midi in to mpc's midi out. then you also need audio cables going from the keyboards audio output to the mpc's record inputs. it's really not that complicated.

if you don't want the keyboard to trigger samples on the mpc, then you need to start a separate track for strictly midi... turn program off on the mpc so that there are no samples to be played on that track... and set midi to 1A [or whatever output/midi channel you have the keyboard hooked up to].

and asking someone else to read the manual for you is seriously not a good look, son.

I actually went to guitar center and bought a mixer so that i could play the korg and mpc simultaneously thru my speakers. I also have the mpc and korg connected by dual midis like both of you suggested. I still am having a little bit of trouble actually recording the synthesizers from the korg INTO the mpc.

Haha appreciate the help man, and yeah that was really rookie, but it wasnt so much telling him to read it for me, but rather to help me find what it was i need to read, cause i am very new/stupid when it comes to all of this. appreciate all the help tho guys, foreal!

is the mixer going into your MPC's record inputs then?

you can't record audio from the keyboard if your not sending the audio signal into the mpc. midi is one thing, audio is another...

the mpc and korg are connected via MIDI, and thats what i originally thought that the MIDI was being used for, to record sounds from the korg into the mpc, but your telling me thats wrong. that makes sense now, but if you wouldnt mind can you clarify the actual purpose of the MIDI in the first place.

on the back of the MPC i also see "record in" which i am not using, and Im guessing thats what you've been telling me this whole time (light bulb moment). do you know what kind of cables I'll need for this, as well as the ports i should link it too on the korg?

these are basics that you can find info on anywhere, even the manual... but MIDI is not audio. you won't ever be able to record audio into your MPC unless you're using cables that are going into the RECORD INs... hence the name.

problem solved. the rest is in your manual.

not trying to be mean or nothing, but you gotta learn the basics on your own.
