could be an s900, that and the s950 look the same...

the monitors would have to be YAMAHA NS10's...
they are usually used to help with the mixdown as they have a similiar frequency response to what most home stereo speakers have...

the best made ever monitors in the world, they set the standard of how music should sound mixed, from the eighties, and thier dicscontinued, they are called yamaha ns10s. cop a pair if u can, u wont be dis

Gotta differ with you on the NS10 front. They are not the best sounding monitors ever made! They are probably the worst, and without a decent amplifier they are even worse. However, that is their strength! The old saying is that if you can make something sound good on these, then it will sound good on anything - because they have a strange frequency response and not much bottom end.

I used them once or twice with a quad amp and from the outset I absolutely hated them, cause my mixes sounded sh## on them, but I grew to absolutely love them over a couple of days and with plenty of cross-referencng they made me work my arse off to get a good mix.

Almost impossible to find these days, but if anyone has got a pair to sell in Europe, I wanna buy them - but not at extortionate prices!

Thankyou ... some one with a brain and ears at last.

True ...
Current session I am in we have two pairs of them on the go for referencing against/with/back and too.

We're sticking with the KRK 7000B's and KRK 6000's for most of the EQ'ing and balancing with reference checking now and then against a big Tannoy Main System, baby Auratone Cubes and ... a ... good ... old ... set ... of NS10 HIFI speakers !!!

That's right folks ... NS10 speakers started life as HIFI speakers.

They were a marketing failure as a HIFI speaker for many different reasons.

Thanks to some 80's publicity shots featuring NS10 speakers in the background of an interview with a certain big time engineer/producer they became a hit for close/direct field monitoring in just about every studio.

Find the real story out there on the net some where to fill in any gaps.

Not long after this Yamaha saw fit to rebadge these speaker as the NS10M studio model ...

The rest is history.

Agree...

More to the point.

If your NS10's are reproducing bottom end ... then your mix is too bass heavy.

If your NS10's sound too bright then you've lost the plot in the hi frequency department.

If your NS10's sound like a set of poxy book shelf speakers then your mix is probably getting close to being right.

As your only set of monitors these wouldn't do.

As an additional reference set to switch in for referencing purposes then you'd be bang on the money.

>Almost impossible to find these days, but if anyone has got a pair to sell >in Europe, I wanna buy them - but not at extortionate prices!

Try a second hand HIFI store ... seriously. They may not have the "Studio Badge" on but they'll still be the same thing.

Would I want a pair ? No way ...

Having said that though ... I am glad these things are every where.

At least they are one standard of sorts that people can relate to when stepping into a new studio for a serious mixing job.

MIDI isn't perfect either ... but it's everywhere :-)

Rohan.

About the NS-10's being discontinued, I heard it is because the cones are made from a japanese tree that is an endangered species and since there isn't a lot of room on Japan to grow trees, they can't make them anymore.

Could be wrong, but it sure is a good story.

that is true elm, they cant produce the pulp, thts what the cones were made of.

and are u saying tht i dont have a brain, 3000le.

i didnt say best sounding. read b4 opening yur vaginal passage of a mouth, powered by your herpes eyes.
the concept of them sounding horrible may be true, but tht is what makes them.
stand. which is understandable
