Existing MPC users...

Hello sir:

I think given the equipment you have it won't be too hard to accomplish what you're looking to do.

Now the Mbox has 2 analog inputs, 2 analog outputs
2 channels of S/PDIF digital I/O, 1 midi in and 1 midi out.

There are a number of ways you can configure things, I'm sure you'll switch it around alot as you grow accustomed to the setup.

Initially this makes the most sense (to me):

ASR10 L/R audio output -> Mbox Analog In 1/2
MPC2500 SPDIF output -> Mbox SPDIF Input

With this setup you can monitor all the audio inputs (I pray Akai hasn't overlooked the ability to monitor soundcard sources in the MPC software).

Now your MIDI routing really depends on how you'd like things to work, this seems like the appealing configuration to me:

1. ASR10 Midi output -> MPC2500 Input 1
2. ASR10 Midi input -> MPC2500 Midi output 1
(You probably have your setup hooked up like this now)

3. MPC2500 Midi output 2 -> Mbox Midi Input
(With this the 2500's sequencer can output MIDI into the MPC software, this in turn allows you to use the ASR10 to output MIDI to the MPC software)

4. Mbox Midi Output -> MPC2500 Midi Input 2
(With this the MPC software or MPC Studio can send MIDI to the 2500 and in turn the ASR10)

From my experience the more routing and options you have the more time you spend time hooking things up and learning about digital music tools/protocols/computer stuff in general (and there ain't nothin wrong with all that!) than you do making music.

In short....find what works and always move in the direction of simplification!

Thanks for the detailed answer. I'll check my current setup and post again because I have the ASR set up as midi controller only, no sound ever comes out of it anymore. Ever since I got my first MPC, I stopped using the sequencer in the ASR.

Ok here's how I have everything setup:

cable from the OUT of ASR to IN MPC (2)
cable from midi IN MPC (1) to OUT Mbox
cable from midi OUT (A) MPC to midi IN Mbox

I want to leave the 2500 connected so I can use it whenever I please and use the studio the majority of the time. My thoughts right now are to use the MP as a plugin in PT, but I really want to use the MP as the sequencer....that's for another thread once I have the studio in hand.

IF you dont use it, SELL it, and the MBOX, and use the $$$ to buy the RENNY Renaissance, a midi controller, and still have enuf do$h to get a bottle of drank, a extra large pizza and a 40 rock...
