Audio basics for dummies Q

Could someone please refer me to a website which can describes the basics of audio, and by that i mean detailed simple descriptions for words such as filter, low pass, high pass, frequency and other terms. Sorry but these terms i haven't got the best grasp on and how they apply.

Filter: A device used to remove unwanted frequencies from an audio signal thus altering its harmonic structure. Low Pass filters are the most common type of filter found on music synthesizers. They only allow frequencies below the cutoff frequencies to pass. High Pass filters only allow the high frequencies to pass, and band pass filters only allow frequencies in a selected band to pass through. A notch filter refects frequencies that fall within its notch.

Frequency: The number of cycles of a waveform that occur in a second.

Those definitions came from a book intitled "Digital Home Recording: Tips, Techniques, and Tools for Home Studio Production" (Hal Leonard, 1998). Its a good book, very informative... but there are probly more current books available.
