Was just reading that post about this guy who asked for a jj os password.

You all ditched him and an op closed the thread.

I am an IP lawyer who's hobby is music and especially hardware boxes.

I have this mpc and really want to upgrade it to the jj os. But, hey 123$ ???

Given the fact that by programming the jj os, this guy JJ violated so many IP rights such as copyright, trademarks even, passing off, unjust enrichment, patents... AKAI can actually "seize" the code and start marketing it as their own without paying a dime to the JJ. If someone is violating rights -- then JJ is the guy.

But you say - 'hey, in the "moral" prospective - the jj did some work so lets pay him'. I say OK but, we need to remember that A LOT of diy projects that required A LOT more work are FREE (for instance: my xoxbox is beautiful and FREE). our community is built on that. JJ should make the code FREE to all to see, manipulate, adjust... You wanna be a pirate and make AKAI's product better? do it for FREE. This situation when JJ is a kind of a "monopol" brings for these high prices = 123$.

My two cents

No one forces you to pay JJ anything, just keep using the Akai OS or get the FREE JJOS. Even that is miles better than the official one. I don't find it hard to pay 123$ because I feel that the added value to my MPC experience is worth more than that.

Dunno really on what you base this statement: "...we need to remember that A LOT of diy projects that required A LOT more work...". Are you familiar with the amount of work JJ has put to the OS?

My troll sense is tingling so kthnxbye.

akai tried to screw jj when he was an akai employee. search these forums, there is enough information about that.

so jj did the right thing and started his own os to compensate for the bills that akai refused to pay him.

And I guess that if AKAI had the slightest legal ground to strike on JJ to make him cease and desist or even put their hands on the JJOS they would have already took that route... just saying.

so what your a unemployed lawyer is that it. Cant come up with 123 bucks is pretty sad OP. Like MTC said its worth it and of course we have morals as we are not lawyers lmao.
And least you did not charge us for the time there so thats nice.

Your not a lawyer if you cant afford 123 bucks man, I know i work with lawyers for years.
This thread is making me laugh hey. So OP consider putting that attitude where the sun dont shine, as its pretty lame and shameful IMHO. Ok I know your a lawyer so it i guess i should not be surprised

times is tough in the world of law, huh? (damn bliprock beat me to it)

from one lawyer to another, you will not find support for your perspective here. learn the history of the origins of JJ and the OS and you will likely change your tune.
some of us have been working on testing/improving this OS for close to 10 years.
now if you want to go toe to toe on bird law, we can talk.

Here's MY 2 cents...
You obviously know nothing about JJ or anything, from all that you've posted. I own a x0xb0x too. But that's an entirely different subject altogether. So don't bother to compare apples and oranges... and don't act like you're entitled to something you're not regarding the JJ OS. If you like it, buy it. But don't complain about it if you haven't paid for it.

BTW... If there were any valid points to be made by you or the other member who's thread I locked, then I would leave them open. But both of these topics do absolutely nothing but interrupt the flow of information here... and I won't tolerate it.
