This makes no sense. Why would you want to use this software without the hardware? Using it with some 3rd party controller will offer no major advantage over what's currently available on the market. The value in this technology IS the tight hardware integration. It's the same thing with Maschine!

Sorry, but that doesn´t make sense at all! Don´t take this the wrong way. I´m totally willing to pay up to 1,200 bucks for a decent, reliable MPC software. I always dreamed about it. But I fail to see why I have to use more than my Roland/Cakewalk A300Pro controller-wise.

its' all about timing clocks. using our custom midi driver, we can be (conservatively) 10 times faster than a standard midi USB connection. in reality, its closer to 15x, or thereabouts. and we can have multiple ports, each of which can process simultaneously, rather than linearly. standard class compliant controllers cant do this.

using our custom midi driver

Is it possible to use the new MPC's as normal DAW controllers as well?

Have ou thought of something like Automap to control other DAW's, or are you working on templates?

The Ren could be a ecellent DAW controller with all it's knobs and buttons :D

it will work as a standard midi controller as well.

Our software will have automap for plugins built in when they are loaded to tracks.

automap for other daws isnt a bad idea, however...

The MV8800 is the red button in my studio but its not right to come to an MPC forum and parade around like its the best. I know it is but thats beside the point. You have to respect the ground you walk on. Now, these engineers from Akai are actually listening to us to make this a dream product, when Roland decides to get off their high horse and make that hybrid everyone wants then I'll be riding next to you, but its 2012 and new gear is always pleasing, and Akai and NI are the only ones showing innovation.

Lets just keep it moving and wait until this thing drops, then we'll have some ground to say whether its great or garbage.

Not only does it make no sense at all, gertie sounds like Akai isn't entitled to recoup their investment and make a profit.

I predict that my Studio will lie in the corner within a year. >>>
(Translation: I dont have the patience to read an instruction manual, and am just another FANBOY TOY COLLECTOR with more $$$ than brains, desperately trying to compensate for a lack in other departments.)
There´s no avoiding the fact that lots of potential costumers have not intention whatsoever of using the hardware. >>>
(Translation: waaah! sob! pleeze make it so i can buy the software by itself! wah! pleeze!)
There´s, therefore, every indication that Akai will offer the software as stand-alone DAW at some point. That´s assuming it runs smoothly, of course.
(Translation: I can perfectly predict the future, and if Im wrong, theres got to be a logical reason why it didnt come true that obviously is no fault of my own)

If you want a software MPC without dedicated controller get Renoise and the MPE addon

Renoise rocks, seriously ;)

gerties say...hmmm..i bet you that aint the only reason

akai dickriders take over thread

:?

What are you talking about dude? It's common sense! It'd be one thing if 3rd party manufacturers came out with controllers that are dedicated to the Akai software, similar to the Panorama P4 for Reason, but that ain't gonna happen, at least no time soon. No one wants another MPD/Axiom+(insert production sofware) combo.

My M-Audio Axiom Pro has hypercontrol which let's it basically control any function of Pro Tools, but it sucks compared to a true dedicated Pro Tools controller like a 003 Console or Control 24.

Nobody is dick riding Akai. It's just simple common sense, as is with Maschine. What your hatred makes hard for you to see is that this software is created specifically for the MPC hardware and the MPC hardware only, just like any previous MPC. It's not meant to be a universal piece of software like Reason or FL. It's the OS for the MPC that happens to reside on an external computer for power.

Now, the one thing I do not agree with is the software not being able to run without the hardware connected. For example, with Maschine, I can complete a beat on one date, and open up my project on another computer (like a laptop) at a later date without the hardware attached and I can export my beat, edit/swap samples, mix, or bounce my project to an audio file with the mouse. But as far as the software not being sold separately to operate with other hardware (or without hardware at all), I have no problem with that!

Who needs controllers?

I do. The lack of having dedicated controllers is what turns me off about many software products.

I tried using controllers from Akai and Euphonix with software in an attempt to duplicate an MPC workflow. I have never been able to achieve it.

Personally, I hope to get a lot of mileage out of the Ren controller. It would be great if there was a way to fully integrate it with 3rd party software. Imagine if a product like Reasons could be completely controlled via the Ren's controller? Awesome IMHO.

damn... i been sleeping on that one.

i've used POISE quite a bit though... and i like it because it's a very "light" vst instrument [small in size and memory it uses]... how's renoise in that regard?

Renoise is very dope actually. Again depends on how you make music. i do mainly sample chopping so i don't work it to the ground. it's never crashed on me and runs easy on 128 buffer size. It makes good use of shortcuts .. the workflow is surprisingly awesome using the computer keyboard as dedicated controller.. and mapping on it is easy.. It has a quick learning curve imo. the chopping on it is good. the demo doesn't let you render as wave but you can save the project. Works with linux too..

selling the software without the hardware is stupid.. making it dongle free(controller being the dongle) is smart.. Because i think it would temp kids who have the software without the hardware to eventually want the full experience that other users rave about on these boards when it;s out and about.. you wouldn't really worry about it being pirated, since the intention of it is the hardware and software integration. Piracy happens wether you move with it or not.. There's no use trying to stop it.. Mite aswell use it as free advertising.
