I've listened to Burial for a while.
Burial's style has inspired so many people that Burial has now become a genre. This is because people were creating music of a similar style and then getting labeled as "copy cats" because it sounded like Burial.
Burials music does not fit into any genre but is usually played alongside Hip Hop, Dubstep and Techno.
His tracks are heavily sample based. I read an interview somewhere where he said he samples a lot. Thats why they sound rough and dirty. Rumor has it he uses Sony Acid (previously Sonic Foundry). Others say he uses a hardware sampler and some have even said he produces on an Atari. Who knows, he could do it on an MPC.
Bottom line is his music is emotional, its the sort of music you listen to and it takes you on a journey. I listen to it on the bus sometimes and it opens the brain. Touches the soul as if the music is speaking from another dimension and you're being exposed to another life.
I'd like to think that when I die, my spirit travels to the sorts of places his music makes you feel you're in.
