selling the software without the hardware is stupid.. making it dongle free(controller being the dongle) is smart.. Because i think it would temp kids who have the software without the hardware to eventually want the full experience that other users rave about on these boards when it;s out and about.. you wouldn't really worry about it being pirated, since the intention of it is the hardware and software integration. Piracy happens wether you move with it or not.. There's no use trying to stop it.. Mite aswell use it as free advertising.

I agree 100%. NI doesn't even sell Maschine by itself and you must have Maschine plugged in when you initially authorized the software. After that, you can launch Maschine without its controller plugged in. I think Akai and NI are doing what's best for their product lines.

I do think it would be a good idea to provide a 30 day free trial of the software like so many companies are doing.

Im sorry to say that Im totally against any kinda free software trials...
I want the 'ware to be as near as perfect as they can get it, working with the Renny Ren Controller with all the bombs armed and missiles ready to fire...

I think it should be obvious to everyone here, from all the chatter, HATE and confusion, that this is the most anticipated piece of kit since maybe the APC 40.

I view this situation from the teachings of the "ART of WAR" >>>

"Those who are skilled in the art of war bring the enemy to the battlefield, they are not brought by him"

this guy is clueless have u used maschine before?

do u understand the benefit of that concept?

do realize how popular the maschine concept is?

do u realize that computers are part of most people production process and that there was a huge gap in the market for hardware instruments that integrate with software environment?

this is liike explaining to a horseman the benefits of a car and dude so stuck in old ways of thinking dude cant grasp certain things.

i wish u well sir.

Steinberg, Propellerhead, Arturia, Image Line, Presonus, Universal Audio, Korg, Roland/Cakewalk, etc offer limited demo's of some of their products. I see this as a huge selling point to let potential customers try out a fully functional demo of their products at home before spending hundreds of dollars.

They do beta there software/OS's. Always have. It's just not public. Well, if you ask some people around here, they'll consider any Nukai product a public beta!

Really ? Everyone else thinks you embarrass yourself on a daily basis, and your opinion is worthless when it comes to people spending their hard-earned cash.

It's OK to have a disagreement with someone and all. But you can't just disagree with everything they say just because you hate their guts. I've had PLENTY of disagreements with Jah, as he has with I, but there is still a lot of truth and common sense to much of what he says, no matter how passionate or opinionated you think he may come across! I know, I know, customer first and all that shit. But if a company doesn't put their own best interest first, they are gonna lose, plain and simple! Sure some companies take ridiculous advantage of this practice, but in the case of hardware dongling, this is not the case.

At the end of the day, Akai's (and NI) intention is for the user to get the COMPLETE experience of the software/hardware combo, not one or the other. I know if I spent a lot of time working on something spectacular, I wouldn't want people to only see half of it. It'd be like selling your best beat to an artist and them removing half of the instruments or them asking to only buy the drums from the beat to use with some other guy's sample/melody.

+1

Then leave you on the credits after half the vibe was left off and everybody says you made a weak beat cause they didn't even hear the whole thing.

It runs quite well on a singlecore Atom Netbook with Linux, you get low latency using the onboard soundcard, control and timing are superb.

It's so good that i would like to switch my main DAW computer to Linux as well, doing my mixing and stuff there too ( in Harrison Mixbus ).

Performance is a lot better there than on Windows or Mac if you choose a good lightweight OS. Get a RME PCI soundcard and you have performance like a standalone device.

Think of it like one big DAW software, you can have several apps open at the same time and jam around, then you route everything into your main mixing software wich in most cases is Ardour or the Ardour based Harrison Mixbus. I read that Reaper would run on Linux as well, and soon there is Butttwig coming for Linux.

Hydrogen for Drums is another killer app. the tradeoff with Linux is that there is limited hardware support, soundcards, controllers, yeah, and plugins of course. But the plugin thing is getting better, there are enough possibilities to get your stuff done with non VST plugins.

If you want good controllers you have to spend alot http://www.lionstracs.com/

Or build your own http://www.ucapps.de/

Linux is underground for computer based beatmaking i'd say, Akai should support it..

yes indeed, a cracked version of maschine software doesnt exist...and nobody uses it

how could i have been so wrong :?

ps as mentioned by someone else, it might be useful for some cats to to do some final editing using the software alone? say when travelling.....using the ren and notebook on a plane might be cumbersome

of course to get the true benefits the controller is needed.....no one ever said otherwise....however using software alone, i imagine its just some extra effort involved...eg 5 mouse clicks instead of rotating a dial directly....who knows...all will be revealed once its on the market

Don't see this as biting back - but rather as a courteous response to your point.
I just think there is a way to express yourself without forcing your opinions on others. You haven't seen the private messages sent and let me tell you - they go beyond acceptable behaviour.
I note when BGBeats and emptysea put their point across (just as clumsily) they are called out on it - rightly so.
Where you see 'passionate' and 'opinionated' I just see obnoxious. A quick look round these forums will tell you Im not the only one - Anyway - on to the main stuff..
I think Nukai are possibly making the best of what is a bad situation (from a 'company profits' point of view, Maschine has made an impact and the way forward is a PC/hardware hybrid. I get the feeling that production costs point to this as being the best setup i nterms of making a profit. Nukai don't care if you're a Dilla or a Bieber - they just want their units sold.
But I will wait till I know more facts before making a decision.
I will not force my opinions on others - then cry 'hater' when people disagree with me.
It would be great to see a classic product that tempts me to part with my 3000.
But in the meantime - lets discuss things properly...

The MPC Studio would be a better fit for travel. Besides...just having a lap top is cumbersome flying coach.

Sending private messages have been therapeutic for me personally and benefits the forum. Nobody wants to sit back and read through pages of insults derailing good threads. I have found that certain individuals love to talk sh!t in an open forum but are less inclined to do so one-on-one.
