Get the MPC+Ableton tutorial book from Mpc Tutor

Because it's awesome.

At 1st I thought I didn't really need it and thought, well, 7 bucks what the hell.

In it I found all the boring stuff I don't have the time (or patience) to really dig into (latency issues anyone?).

Everything there is explained simply and clearly. Andy chewed up all the stuff for you. You just have to get it, print it in A4 (better with colors) and have it next to you when you turn the gear up.

Whether you're new to this or not, you should get it because there has to be something that your lazy-self put aside which needs clarifications.

Having bought a few of the tutorials on this site - the only thing that stops me is that Im not sure how much of it will be relevant to my poor old 1920s mpc 3000...

I will say again however - that Ableton is just incredible.

zippertafari - fully compatibile with the MPC3000, I worked with Arkyve to make sure everything for thew MPC3000 worked correctly in all my DAW books. There's a couple of bits and pieces that are JJOS or MPC4000 only, but 95% of the book can be recreated in the 3000.

Yeah it is a pretty useful book (as is the beatmaking one), though just a heads up, all of the Live sets provided require Sampler, Operator, and Collision. Of which, I have none. My copy of Live is legit, but I dont own the Suite. Of course I can replicate the lessons and replace the instruments but it would have been nice to able to listen to, alter and save the sets without having to do that first especially as it was my understanding that I wouldn't need the extras to check them out. The price is low so I cant really complain...

Could you confirm which instruments I've used that are not in the standard edition? I've only used three instruments in the entire project, and they are all available in 'Instrument Rack'. I specifically didn't choose any instruments from Sampler, Collision or Operator. Instruments used from instrument rack are:

Bass sub smack
Ambient Noise Floor
Key Grand Hall

Although I used the Suite to create the tutorial, I also installed the trial of the standard edition to double check everything I was using should be available to everyone. All three instruments were available in the standard 'Live 8' edition trial I had installed.

If you could confirm which instruments you are having issues with, and what you replaced them with?

If there is a problem, I will update the book ASAP!

Okay, scrap my last post, I've just installed the trial on a different computer, and it looks like when I installed the trial originally, it merged the instruments from the Suite so the instrument rack folder contained instruments form both.

It still only uses 'Instrument Rack', but yes, the instruments I've used are not available in the standard version.

Can't believe I missed that, really sorry!

I will compare the two versions and find instruments that are present in both, and will try to get that book updated this weekend (children allowing), if not first thing Monday. Everyone can then re-download the new updated copy from their file bank (I'll send a newsletter out to let everyone know).

ps. instead of comparing the 2 versions, it might be faster if you just load up the instrument (on your non-suite version) and it will tell you if it needs Operator,etc to run it...
eg.Keys that work
Acoustic, Acoustic String,Piano in a Cage,Piano Little One, Prepared Piano Harmonics are all ok in the acoustic keys section

Right, I think that's all fixed. I swapped out all the instruments with ones available in the standard Live install and tested it in the Live demo on a different computer. Initially, it didn't like me using the 'Keys-Acoustic Piano' from instrument rack, kept insisting it was a Suite instrument. No idea why, the flipping instrument is sitting right there in Instrument Rack in the Live 8 trial!

Anyway, I switched to Simpler and used the same 'Keys Acoustic Piano' set, and it works fine.

I also fixed some incorrectly referenced audio, and made a couple of minor text and image updates within the book itself.

It all seems to load perfectly in the Live 8 Trial.

I'm 95% finished on an ePub/iBooks/Kindle version of this book as well - I'll get that added to the existing download package next week. It looks very smart in iBooks, especially with all the page turning graphics
