[update] i got that dirty SP12 turbo...

Forum for all other samplers & synths such as Maschine, MVs, Akai S & Z series, Roland, Korg, OP-1, analog synths etc.

[update] i got that dirty SP12 turbo...

so there's a guy selling an E-MU SP12 turbo in kinda messed-up condition locally... i'm no longer living in the USA and this kind of gear is really hard to find out here, so i'm slightly considering trying to get it back in decent condition as a project... but i'm not sure yet as it's not cheap and it's not in good condition either...

anyways, this SP12 is missing a button, a slider, and more importantly it has nail polish all over it... i was wondering if anyone has ever had to deal with cleaning up an old SP12?? do you think the nail polish will come off easily with nail polish remover or alcohol? or do you think it will probably ruin the surface of the SP12 in the process?? i'm really hesitant to get this because of just how damn messy it is... but if i know for fact it'll clean up nicely, i just may consider it...

well I am guessing the finish is baked on... not painted... right? if so, it should be fine.

debauch: i'm not sure what the finish is like... i've never really had a chance to stare at one in person for long...

drukqs: are you sure acetone wouldn't damage the finish either? do you speak from experience?


i'm so torn here... it's a classic piece of equipment, but in just terrible condition... this is really tough... but i can't stand to see it go to waste either... AARRRGGGHHHH!! :lol:

acetone will **** up the finish on your sp, i used it on my mpc to take off one of the akai logos and it took all the black paint off.

you might be able to get it off with a small amount for a very short period of time, but i wouldent hold my breath.

if you did buy this, i think the only way to get it off would be to get it customized by someone.

didnt even take off the akai logo :lol: :lol: :lol: just turned it from black to white.

it might be an idea to open it up...if its full of nail varnish on top of its, youd never know what type of crap be inside it

its fairly easy....something like 6 screws on the bottom and 3 at the back

^yeah but the new numark mpc models are probably painted where as older ones like the 2000/xl are baked on enamel ... it might not do anything to that..

I mean, maybe you can snag it for cheap though.

I would use a 50/50 mixture of wateer and isopropyl on it. And a smooth cloth. If this wouldnt work I would raise the concentration of the isopropyl.
I dont think that it could really ruin the surface. But like gertie said: Even in the worst case scenario you can get a new surface at styleflip.

I guess the fadercap is realtive easy to get (Forat or elsewhere). The button isn't a drumpad which is good cause the drumpads are rare as .....
