And this all goes to show that the standalone MPC is king. This controller/dongal/software compromise challenges the whole point of the simple MPC experience ie easy oldschool tracked into daw MUSIC.Lest we forget.Still,i hope for a kickin controller none the less.No funny buisness tho 3+]

Not necessarily! Even with or without a dongle, you can still take VMPC on a plane with your laptop if they decouple the hardware from the software. With a hardware MPC, you ain't using that thing on a plane, bus, coffee shop or anywhere public. Even if you could find a power source, the shits are huge, unless your talking 1000 or 500.

Ok.But i hope that thing that you lugging around gives you a Great hardware experience ie mpc ect.otherwise we are talking about something else.Softaware, dongals, compatability ect ect.And all that energetics that come with it.Hip hop was never about that crap inna old days.Just programme and record.Done!!! Not easy but sensible.Mobile is good tho and some would say essential. So bring it on akai :P

See why I am against selling the Renny Ren software without the controller?

Now we got producers talking about DONGLES<<<everybody HATES THEM, admit it..

Then we got producers gabbin' about SECURITY on the CLOUD, cracked version of software, etc...

Akai is in a very strong position, and according to the illustrious annals of Sun Tzu in the "ART of WAR", they can WIN by not losing..."do not give up your high ground to attack the enemy..."

Who cares what the other companies are doing?

Software costs very little to develop in contrast to hardware, and especially when youre building from the ground up a dedicated hardware controller with their special midi drivers that are 15 TIMES faster than midi, with vintage sounds and QUALITY AD/DA converters...
...why should AKAI give up their strong position to attack a market that doesnt exist? Especially when theyve got us, the most rabid, hardcore, beta testing beat nazis known to human history?

hahaahahahhahah 8)

However, if everything in life was like trying to hold on to the old ways of doing shit, we'd still be transporting in horse and buggies, or shitting down a hole in the backyard!

Who needs controllers?

I do. The lack of having dedicated controllers is what turns me off about many software products.

I tried using controllers from Akai and Euphonix with software in an attempt to duplicate an MPC workflow. I have never been able to achieve it.

Personally, I hope to get a lot of mileage out of the Ren controller. It would be great if there was a way to fully integrate it with 3rd party software. Imagine if a product like Reasons could be completely controlled via the Ren's controller? Awesome IMHO.

Jah, funny you should mention this. MashineR does just that: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hm_8nozru8g

Not too bad for about $30.

That looks pretty dope. Seems like way too much shit to learn and memorize though!

i hear ya. i still have 2" and 1/2" tapes and dat tapes from sessions back in the day. don't know what to do with them. use to do sessions at D&D and Chung King studios in NY. (Studios made famous by Premo, Fat Joe, DITC, Run-DMC, Public Enemy and LL for those who aren't from NY)

not to jack the thread but who still rockin the tape machine and DAT recorder? :D

I do that with Akai MPK61. I can control everything in Reason. from transport to manipulating the rack. it works really good with KONG. changing sounds. Akai has a map preset for reason.

Everything...without touching a mouse? I am talking about sampling, sample editing, creating program/patches, sequencing, sequence editing, etc.

This is why i've never really liked using midi controllers. Since i've never found a daw together with a midi controller you can completely do sample edits,(chopping) and map all the stuff quickly... It involves going back and forth between the pad controller then the mouse.. within some vst or plugin...

Checking out renoise with the mpe tool.. looks interesting..

With the exception of Maschine, I have never used a controller that has near complete control of software. I hope the MPC Ren will do the same. Dan said in one of the videos that Ren's hardware controls approx 90% of the software.

agreed on maschine.. There are some things that are done quicker with a mouse... Even quicker with a touchpad with multitouch.. For me this is in the linear style daw..

I would assume the ren will control almost everything with the amount of qlinks...

That being said, i don't think the ren should be a fully featured daw to compete with the likes of cubase pt and such... It should also integrate well with everything else..

Hopefully the Software will focus on being a sampler and you can sequence the samples and other midi devices solidly.. I think delving into the whole world of vocal tracking and stuff like that would be too many features to control.. If you slave it inside your fav daw as vst and can transport through yr fav daw with the ren controls and also rout all pads(samples tracks wat ever) back to yr fav daw, i think it will be a winner..
