s/pdif and other stuff

I'm thinking of getting a motu 828mk2 to hook up my 8outs to for pc recording, the 828 has spdif ins and outs, would I be able hook the out from the spdif on the mpc to the 828 so that I could monitor a stereo mix when making beats and then use the 8 outs when recording?

the other alternative is to hook 8outs into a behringer ADA8000 to convert the audio to ADAT then lightpipe into an EMU 1212m to record, and have the outs on the emu going to an analogue mixer to monitor when mixing down. this would also mean I could hook the main stereo outs from my mpc into the mixer for monitoring when beat making. this system would let me work without ever having to swap cables around. then again so would setup above.

any advice, which would you choose? (bear in mind the only equipment I own at the moment is an mpc classic with 8 outs and behringer truths in storage)

i own the 828 mk2 and the way i have it hook up is i have all my mpc 8 outs hook up to the 828 mk2 8 analog inputs. The two mono outs(OR STEREO) are hook up to channel one on my mix. I have that ada coverter you have talk about and with that i have my motif es 6 outs hook up to that and 2outs from the my nord lead rack to the 8 inputs of the ada converter. Everything is still connectect to my mixer from the stereo outs and all the extra outs are connected to the 828 or the ada which is connected to the 828 adat connection. Here is the trick. You connect your sound card stereo out to your mixers Tape in. Youll use this to hear whats coming out the sound card ones it enters you system and out. pluse this delets latency too.

I have the 8-outs from my mpc to 8 inputs on my soundcard, and the digital out to digi-in. As long as you mute the digital track when you've put everything on individual outs, you're fine. (when you assign a sound to an analog output, it still comes out the digital output too for some reason)

Oh, and make sure you have the original Akai 8-out board, and not the one Mutec makes, cause their digital out is AEB.
