That yamaha es rack I wanted to pick up was listed for 375.00
I was very upset that I couldn't go and check it out. That's dirt cheap if it was a legit add.

If you open up a 5000 you will most likely find that covered up in some kind of green marker on all the PCB boards is a 3500 stamp on them. My guess is it was originally plotted to be a 3500 then they made some kind of marketing decision to try capitalize off a larger value the the legendary 4000.

I doubt that production was that far along before they changed their mind.
The 3500's were probably an early short production run not an actual mass production run.

it wasn't meant to be better in terms of specs (khz, ram etc.). it should have been an user interface improved, uptodate mpc with extras (synth, more fx, etc.). that's why it was called 3500 first. by naming it 5000 akai caused heavy damage to the fame of the fantastic "3500".

I wish they would have kept the 3500..... But then again we might have had just as much hate from 3000 owners. It's a nice piece of gear..... I love my 5000. I wish I had more time to use it :(

With all the features it added they were more concerned with things that would really make a difference, more memory wouldn't do that.
