yeah it can get tempting and dangerous when there's literally a pile of cash sitting in front of you begging to be spent on something. buying gear is fun but i gotta admit selling it, while it hurts also feels pretty f'n good too.. less things to clutter the brain and work out which cables would be best place where.

its been an enlightening post - but im definately satisfied from the other users that the 1000 aint broke so dont bother tryin to fix it

ive got an old Ediril FA101 interface that has one.. but i cant use it at the same time as the onyx unfortunately, which functions as my main recording interface through firewire. i could track the MPC separately but my process is essentailly to record everything basically as a live performance into the DAW, so its either one or the other and id rather just stick with the onyx than go back to FA-101.

ill still do some experimenting with the digital out of the mpc.. gotta find an appropriate cable to convert the RCA of the mpc to the SPDIF on the audio interface to try it tho.

Just a thought here. If you send me a loop, snare, kick or whatever(wave only please)and you need some help figuring out if its worth it too spend the bread on outboard,I would be happy to send it through some of my amps,eq's,compressors....for you. No strings attached but this forum has taught me some useful things so I would be happy to help someone here out. No strings attached and I will immediately delete the files after doing this. Let me know if your interested. I got all the salt and pepper you need baby:mrgreen:

Has anyone had any experience running their sounds through one of these?

I'm not an expert at "warming" sounds up, and I wouldn't have even known what that term meant until I start using this thing as a filter for a very sterile sounding synth I own. But I can't **** believe how much better it makes everything sound.

It fits in the palm of your hand and runs on batteries for gods sake.

Am I crazy?

yep. that sentence definitely was the best slap in the face i needed to come out of this post. Ill be remembering that saying and try to apply it cos it just makes dam good sense.

the price definitely is right on those things. i have a friend that routs NI massive out and thru one of those he seems pretty happy with doing so.

to me the look like they'd make for a pretty fun little modding project.

turns i cracked it with the gear i have.. and definately 'polished' the sound to my satisfaction

all it took was a little bit of creative re-routing of my gear

originally i was using the frxs purely as a synth.. but i routed an Onyx send channel from all my mpc channels to 1 osc of the XS to run it through those really nice filters, which is gated by the Revolution's pattern. run that through my mxr distortion + pedal and mix it back in to the onyx, then feed back that signal slightly back into the XS for a bit of self oscillating resonance.. then it can be mixed in really wet or really subtle.. either makes the mpc drums sound ultra fat and distorted or extra warm and happy due to all the extra resonance that gets added.

recipe for some nice fat fairy dust right there thall keep me going for ages...no purchasing required

That's the spirit! Glad you found something that worked. Since you got some cash laying around, buy some sounds from this site! I've always used records, live instruments,keyboards.....A while ago I bought some sounds from this site and they sound amazing. Never bought digital sounds before but these are definitely worth every nickel. Have fun with your new method :D

golfdogz wrote:I need help with some decisions. ive decided to do a purge of any gear thats just sitting around not getting used, and with the funds from that pick up somthing nice and useful that sits into my (finally) refined setup that is working really well for me.

im running a Future retro XS and revolution (so nice analogue basses), an ipad (animoog and thru an audio inteface - so its high quality) and my MPC1000 into a mackie Onyx firewire which converts A>D at a really good quality.

The weakest link at the moment im finding is the D>A converter from the MPC 1000..and i love my MPC, its my favourite piece of gear. Im really not talking about a turd here - but i still want to polish it.

Im hearing a lot that the sounds of the MPC 3000 / 60 / 4000 have a much nicer character than the 1000 - but having never owned them im just going on what i hear. listening to the 1000 it does sound to me like akai have put some 'cheap' components at play in there though.

In saying that, I have no desire to part with my 1000, the JJ os is the best thing in the world as far as im concerned. but what im looking for is suggestions for 1 or 2 devices to put between the MPC and the mixer that will just bring it up to par with the rest of the gear. Yes, Im using good quality samples to start, and 99.9% drums. like i said im not unhappy with the sound, but im sure it could be made better

Im really interested to hear whart any other 1000 users are using as hardware processing on their MPC that they could absolutely not live without..

id say ill have about $1200 bucks to play with by the time ive finished selling my stuff. im really only interested in hardware, im not anti VST's by any means, and welcome any suggestions for post tracking DAW processing also - but i just like to keep my rig out of the box..

[edit] is anyone usinga hardware D/A converter like this
http://www.mav-audio.com/base/product/tubemagic_d2
to externally do the D>A conversion...this one seems more targeted at the hifi market but its a start?

sounds like alot of this shit is in ur head ur only disatissfied with the 1k sound because u have read somewhere that it sounds shit in comparisson to the 60 or 3k, but aint owned neither so its just hear say.

yeah exactly - that was the point of my post.. im not dissatisfied with the sound of the MPC at all, i just wanted to find out of what ive head about the 60 and 3000 etc was true from people that have actually owned the other ones. and now I'm educated that there really isnt any difference, thankyou forum.

and if i picked up any tricks from other users about any gear they run their sound through along the way that would be a bonus.. which i did
