Question for you guys - I am helping a friend fix up his MPC with RAM JJOS and some other cosmetic things.

I upgraded my MPC1000 (newer black model) fine with 256 RAM myself very cheaply and easily.

Are there any brands that are known to not work with the ORIGINAL red and blue MPC 1000? I've read the posts on the forum and have done research on cheap ram, but really only want to make sure there are no differences with the earlier/later MPC1000 models.

Thanks!

Not to my knowledge. As far as I know the basic CPU board is the same in all the 1ks so there shouldn't be any difference as far as the RAM goes. Encoders & pads that's a different story -- but not the RAM.

they're both the same machine and use the same exact ram... no difference there. the only difference has to do in regards to the pad upgrade... nothing else changed.

Interesting...I was pretty sure the boards were the same, but remember overhearing someone talking about how certain CF cards worked on their new 1000 and not the older blue model.

In any case, thanks for the answers!

I'm going to wait a day before purchasing and see if anybody comes out with a horror story (I hope not!), but I think I am in good shape.

Never heard of such a problem -- I've got the old Grande Holdings red & blue model myself and I've been on here for awhile.

It's much more likely that the CF problems you heard about were due to factory defective cards rather than anything to do with the MPC (although it might matter which formatting routine was used). That happens more often than you might think. Of course, that still has nothing to do with RAM.
