MIDI PROBLEMS

I've a MPC2K which is midi'd in/out to a novation k-station, no problems there which runs fine as say track 1 midi 1A, but I've a Korg drum machine which is midi thru on k-station to midi in on Korg which I think is right but nothing recording. I've got it set on track 2 as midi 2A and set up as channel 2 on the korg. Am I missing something on the mpc set up? please help peeps....

I can't see a problem with the wiring and channel settings, that's the way it should work...

Do you know if you're sending the Korg the right MIDI Notes? If you're not sure, can you record notes from the Korg to compare? Can't say any more without knowing what Korg model it is...

I'm assuming the K-Station's MIDI Thru is always on, there's no setting to turn it on, is there?

...I can't seem to record the Korg pattern, it's an ER-1 drum machine, I'll check the K-station midi thru setting as you said. If I connect the midi in/outs to the Korg and then thru to the k-station I can record the Korg but not the k-station if you see what I mean, whatever I'm thru-ing to won't record. I really don't understand the midi notes bit though, that would be useful if you could explain further maybe, cheers......

i dont like to use thru cause it gets all confusing. but its probably something to do with your midi chain. i always have trouble everytime i have to rewire my midi. i always call the engineer from the other place to help.

Hey dude, if you don't use thru what do you use? I tried midi out from my Korg to midi in B on the MPC and called track 2 midi 2A but this didn't work either....

when i get home (if your still having trouble) i can exatly tell you what cord goes to what. cause i was having this EXACT problem with my stuff.

i have an mpc, keyboard, and a module that's using midi. so i was in a similar situation.

i only use the in and out from my module. i dont use the thru. my module out i believe is going into mpc midi in b. I THINK.....ill know when i get home.

but if your connecting it to midi in B then you would want to set track 2 to midi 2B. not 2A

Nice one, I did actually mean MIDI 2B which didn't work. I've no computer at home so I'll check your reply in the morning, cheers again....

Ah - direct wiring should work too, but it didn't, so we now know the problem is not in the Thru port on the K-Station.

Have you tried sending data on Channel 10? The ER-1 Manual says that's the default receive channel. (pg 40.) MIDI=10B.

Try the following and let us know what happens:
- hook up both MIDI cables ports from ER-1 to MPC. OutB -> ER-1 In, ER-1 Out -> either IN.
- On the MPC1000, MIDI Mode set Soft Thru = Omni-B. This feeds all incoming MIDI back to Out B.
Now, if you hit pads on the ER-1, do you hear double-triggers, like each note is being hit twice?

If you do, then:
- On the MPC1000, MIDI Mode set Soft Thru = As Track. This feeds all incoming MIDI back to whatever you set on the Track.
- set the selected Track MIDI setting to 10B
- when the channel setting is right, you should get double triggers again.
- with this hookup, try recording some pad hits from the ER-1 into the sequencer. Do you see the events in Step Edit? If not, then the MPC1000 is not getting MIDI from the ER-1
- If you play the events back, that should work.

mpc midi in 1 -> keyboard out
mpc midi out A -> keyboard in
mpc midi out B -> module in


thats how my midi is set up. i believe your setup is similar. but this is mine
