how to sample digital drums from computer without noise?

Just to make absolute sure: You tryed it with TWO TRS cables going from the two outs of the ultralite to the two ins of the MPC without any adapters in between right?

If this is true then check the input setting of the MPC cause it could be a wrong gain staging. AFAIK the 3000 got a switch with 3 different settings. Use the low setting. Then turn up the output of the ultralite as far as possible (always play the source you want to sample as loud as possible). Then use the racgain knob of the MPC to set a good sampling level.

Is on low level is on the gain but there is still noise and I jusy tryed another thing that is weird is I hear a tone like a beep cominf out my headphone jack when I hooked up headphones

If its like a digital, modem like noise I used to have something similar with a Saffire LE & Mac Laptop.

Turned out that what Firewire called 0v/Gnd and everything else, like my mixer etc was a bit different. So I kept getting the noise. Sent the Box back to Focusrite but it all checked out fine.

Unplugging the Laptop PSU made no difference. Using the Saffire PSU made no difference. Balanced cables made no difference.

What I did, which worked perfectly, was get a 6pin to 4pin firewire cable then get a 4pin to 6pin adapter. This took out all power & supply 0v/Gnd from the cable. Then powered the Saffire by its PSU. ....blessed, pristine, pure audio joy.

Turned out that with a PSU & 6pin FW cable connected, the Supply 0v/Gnd is still in the loop. Hence, doing that on its own wouldn't work.

Still no solution found here to get rid of noise but im not sure if there supost to be any at all or is it normal to have a little noise

this is worth trying... using the mini (small 4 pin firewire 1394) plug.. that has all the data bit of the firewire but not the power part... this is what I think is causing the issue.

i suggest also maybe trying the adapter thing to connect it up. it would set you back like 3 bucks on ebay.

Im not actucually using firewire cause my macbook port is broken. And what adapter are u talking about?

Yes im using usb but why am I experiecing it on anthoner cable coming striat from my computer? Im kinda gettin really confused on the issue here

because the ultralite is not the problem... it is the computer.

The computer is giving off a signal of interference. this interference usually comes through the power proving part of the connection.

the adapters the other guy was talking about was a way to eliminate the power wires from the firewire... the full sized firewire has 6 pins and the mini firewire has 2 pins but can not prove any power... so the idea was to switch to the mini firewire to eliminate the power wires... and use another adapter to switch back to the size the ultralite requires (if you use firewire)


in your case, you could maybe get a USB cable... and completely cut out the power providing leads.. either physically, or maybe there is another way... because 90% sure the signal is coming from the computer via the power leads.

I'll have to look into doing this with USB because it'll help out quite a few people i know who've had issues. I've had USB to mini USB cables but not seen if there are adaptors to convert it back to TypeA/B USB.

Saw on wiki once the pins outs for usb & think that there are standard cable colours for the connections. It may be worth a try to try to split open a usb cable carefully, then cut the supply wires, just to see what happens.

The Interface will then have to be powered by a mains adapter.

For some reason I tried sampling again and this time there was no noise, so im kinda lost why this time I had no problem
