ive been scrolling threw the forum to find out if sidechain compression is supported on the new ren/studio software. Can anyone let me know please?

from the videos i've seen i learned that each pad can have individual plugins assigned, so i'd hope that integrating sidechain capabilities would be dependent on the plugins as well right? and i guess you'd need an assignable send from each pad's output, which would be nice anyway.

would definitely be cool.

No audio tracks, no buss= no side chain. You will need something to trigger the compressor and a path to get it to the plugin. The answer is no on the ren itself. But hey the Ren is a plugin itself so you can record the tracks into your computerand set up side chain in the daw of choice.

Just sayin.

talk to sbangs on twitter <akai product guy>, and he told me sidechain can be done in software, now im confused. hope they figure it out without using audio tracks

i remember in one of he vids they mentioned that you can send signals from pads to effects.. now if you can send signals to another pad.. and receive signals from other pads..(pad1 sends signal to input or receive channel 3 of pad2{usually plugins receive key input signals on its 3rd and 4th channels) this is how you would side chain.. If implemented by the software... Otherwise it's routing it through your daw...

He meant your daw cuz it has busses. Midi Production Center =no audio tracks in OS . You guys know that Ren isn't a DAW and side chaining is usually sending the audio of one audio track to via busses to trigger either an compressor or gate via the side chain input. The Ren doesn't provide the bus routing to deliver the audio to trigger even a third party plugin with side chain build in. Now it is ok to dream but a drum machine isn't a mixer. This is an effect created via some kind of mixer with auxes and busses. Of course some advance plugins can use midi as side chain input. My two cents none of the stock Ren plugins will have it as this point in time as they have already stated that there will be no audio tracks in this version.

Like I said and the others you can do it in your DAW it is your mixer.

yeaaah man.
This is exactly what I've been looking for/waiting on. There are sends in the software, so with the usage of plugins outside of the stock plugins that come with the REN software, this theoretically should be possible. I got a chance to mess around with the software (in some magical place mankind has never been), but the ability to use other plugins hadn't been implemented yet in the beta version.

Technically, all you need are sends, and a plugin that excepts sidechain input from sends. Thats it. You have that, and you have sidechaining. The sends don't send midi data, they send the audio from the midi data. Just like the EQ plugins doesn't adjust the frequencies of the midi data, they adjust the frequencies of the audio from the midi data. Just because there is no audio tracks doesn't mean it doesn't manipulate audio...lol.

Again, I haven't tried it with outside plugins that have sidechain ability, but theoretically, this software should be able to do it.

 with all due respect dude all mpcs have sends to the internal mixers straight to the effects but Ren or any other mpcs don't have an aux tracks or audio tracks as triggers. Dream on it is better to ask Andy or Dan directly than to theorize and be disappointed on some assumptions.

By the way, sidechain plugins accept signals from a audio track or bus. The send on a audio track or aux track is just a like a value setting how much signal such go to the aux aka bus channel which is fed into the side chain plugin as input.

If you really want the effect you could just use a plugin with a lfo or the build in lfo assign to amplitude, cutoff, with a setting sync to the sequence and use a sawtooth or something.

Definitely. :o With all due respect this machine isn't all of the other MPC's. I thought that part was obvious.
The same way I can theorize what it can do, you're also theorizing what it can't do. At least I've made some beats on it :)
But you're right. We'll have to wait and see when it comes out.

I don't have to theorize is all I can say. And I know you didn't side chain on it and there are a lot more than meets the eye like your friend letting you use it. There are all more people working on it.

I can say this it was requested at the beginning back in Jan and the word was it may be in future updates along with audio tracks.

Yes the Ren will be a nice mpc when it is finally on the market. But as of now no side chaining in the unit itself. But no matter if you use your DAW. 8)

if you're not theorizing, then neither am I. If I'm theorizing, then so are you.

Either way, I agree man, this is going to be a good machine. Especially when people start learning the notso-obvious tricks on it. Blue Haze you gonna get one homey?
