Who needs controllers?

For me...the ideal Ren feature set would include every feature found in current and legacy MPCs. This includes MPC 5000 hard disk audio tracks. It would be a near perfect product for me.

whats the point of ren having a hard disk when its connected to ur pc? but yeah audio tracks will come soon i imagine

I don't mean the Ren having an actual hard disk. I mean I would like to see hard disk audio tracks like the MPC 5000 as opposed to RAM based audio tracks like you see in the JJ OS.

I do that with Akai MPK61. I can control everything in Reason. from transport to manipulating the rack. it works really good with KONG. changing sounds. Akai has a map preset for reason.

Everything...without touching a mouse? I am talking about sampling, sample editing, creating program/patches, sequencing, sequence editing, etc.

well not to that extent. i think the Nektar Panarama P4 comes closer than the MPK. it has motorize faders and all.

Panorama is our vision of how a great controller should work. Yes, there are many 'generic' controllers on the market already but we have yet to find one that satisfies our criteria of operating the software, as if it’s hardware - That’s Panorama.

This is the quote on their site. And this is how I feel about all controllers on the market. The MPC Rem is poised to give me exactly what I want in a software controller. The Panarama P4 looks ok but even in the video Flux and Saint Joe discuss flimsy keys and the fact you can't load from the controller.

For me to be completely satisfied, I want complete control of the software via the hardware...MPC Ren, Maschine, or otherwise.

Flux and Saint Joe walked up to that unit knowing nothing about it so their review shouldn't be hailed as the gospel by any means. If you watch the videos where the rep know what he's talking about that thing is pretty tightly integrated and pretty well thought out.

They said flimsy keys and great feeling pads...so having read their other reviews over the years, I take it at face value.

Now does tightly integrated mean sampling and program creation from the controller without touching a mouse? If so, I can be sold on it.

I don't think they're trying to sell anybody on it. Reason already provides a huge prospective customer base.

I have been using Reason since Version 1. I have yet to upgrade from Version 4. With 6.5 about to be released, I will most likely upgrade since it is dirt cheap. I would mos def buy a good reason controller but it must have the capabilities I spoke of.

I think the Panorama controller is a nice product, i would have bought it if it where available a few months ago. But now i just thought too much about it and come to the conclusion that it would slow down our workflow, it's impossible to control all the virtual devices with many buttons through this little screen, espeiall the ne Rack Extensions could be a challenge to map. You would need to wait for Nektar to come up with new mappings constanly, and i reall doubt that it would make so much sense with more complicated virtual devices. This is so much macro stuff you would have to remember that a MPC 5000 would be very easy in comparison.

I think capacitive touchscreens would be way better and much faster to control Reason and it's devices... instead of going through thousands of submenu's on the Panorama controller to get to the device and section of a device ou wish to control, you just grab the virtual device and knobs on your touchscreen..
