Note that there is a new 2000XL on the way with a CF card slot replacing the ZIP drive - so that side of it will be up to MPC1000 spec.
I suggest you hang around the MPC1000 Forum for a bit, get a feel for some of the gripes people have with it - but there aren't any real show-stoppers out there. The problems I have with it are a) modifying event time in Step Edit is awkward, b) no Track-level volume control, only per Pad.
