Not currently a Maschine user, but headline improvement seems to be timestretching, I assume that's been pulled out the bag quick sharp to draw a line under the 'Ren is the only one to do timestretching' marketing angle.

I understand this is a feature Maschine users have been screaming for over the past few years, so basically this says to me that the war is on, and the winners will be the consumers on both sides of the fence - better features, quicker development, lower prices. All good stuff.

I doubt Akai have anything to worry about, assuming they are prepared for this kind of reaction from the competition. After all, they've announced a product months before the planned release, so they had to expect NI to come out with something in the interim to take the sting out of the Ren. I think they have to accept it's going to be a real rough ride, but you have to assume they expected this.

agreed i feel maschine and the mpc studio/ren will be on pretty much equal footing when the new mpcs come out in a few months.

will be interested to see how things progress for the next maschine update and the first mpc ren update

that shit will be more telling

If the MPC Ren software is solid, I don't see Maschine as an equal. Maschine is still missing basic MIDI capabilities. Also, program editing on the MPC Ren/Studio appears to be more extensive than Maschine.

The one thing I don't care for in Maschine is that it doesn't fully utilize your computer monitor. For programming, it has 6 pages of parameters accessed one at a time using a drop down box. The MPC Ren/Studio displays all program parameters on your computer screen at once. And then there are things such as having program and track mixers...all of which Maschine lacks.

I don't see where I offended you so...calm down a bit. For the most part, I only speak on things I have first hand knowledge of.

So when you purchased the MPC 5000, what sort of issues did you run into? Any issues I had with the MPC 5000 is clearly identified in the MPC 5000 forum.

Its all good. I just want civil and constructive conversations. I am very opinionated...but at the same time I respect those that respectfully disagree.

The MPC Ren isn't out yet. The same is true for Maschine's OS 1.8. But there are plenty of videos of the MPC Ren in action as well as Maschine and its current OS. When I say the Ren is better, I am talking about specifcs:

1. The MPC Ren has the same 4 MIDI outputs as legacy MPCs. It also imports and exports MIDI files. Maschine doesn't have this level of MIDI control.

2. The MPC Ren's Program Edit Mode is layed out on your computer monitor. You can see all parameters at once to include the 4 sample layers per pads as well as the 4 effects assigned to each pad. You can use the Ren's controller to quickly mapp/layer up to 4 sounds per pad.

Maschine, on the other hand, hides program parameters. You can only view up to 8 parameters at once. The MPC Ren shows approx 12x as much information on your computer monitor in Program Edit Mode. Since these products are software, I don't believe Maschine should have such limitations in this regard. If you take a look at NI's Battery, it also shows numerous Program Edit parameters on your monitor...so unlike Maschine.

These are just two examples to back up my point that these two products will not be on the same level....IF the MPC Ren is stable. Maschine is as stable as any software music product I have used over the years.

remember when the beat thang was announced the specs of that shit?? it blew everything away, but from what ive heard since its dropped is it sucks, it starts bogging down once you get over 6 tracks going together, my point is that you dont really know how anything is till u officially try it, in my mind maschine comes in for the win cause they did it first and their shit works. yea, maschine doesnt support multicore right now and that is bullshit, and their sequencer is lame and their software is lightyears behind reason6 but its still out there and works good for the most part.. sometimes the specs can be great, but the shit can still be wack and ive learned just from being on the phone with akai/numark not to trust them..

Really? I can think of numerous ways. They only advantages Maschine has over Reason is its dedicated integrated controller and support for 3rd party VST effects. Reason is a beast. I wish Akai adds some way to integrate Reason with the MPC Ren.

i aint used reason since like version 3 but i could neva get into it but i do like it i prolly need to sit and spend time with it but the way i do beats is so simple i dont need many of the advanced feature u lot use.

and i need the hands on aspect to really connect with the beat and program the drums

sorry but "almost any other daw" > reason for the fact that it doesn't support VST/AU instruments / plugins.
