loop digga asks a question

How soon after finding a loop or sample do you guys start building a track out of it?

Personally, I find a nice loop or whatever - record it, trim, loop if possible, save and keep listening for more. Build and organize a library of loops/drum loop/drum hits/etc in the process so I can see what samples compliment each other, or just use a primary loop. If I'm really feeling a particular sample/loop then I'll start building a track around it.

I guess you won't find many "loopdiggas" here. Most of the people find loopdiggin lazy and say its stealing.
But to aswer your question. I'm in a process to force myself to use a loop as soon s I found it. I used to build up a library of loops/breaaks etc for years but never really create something out of it. Thats not making music. Thats hunting and collecting and I try to get over that behaviour and createe more music

yeah good advice. I sometimes just build a track on the fly, and prefer this approach bcoz it really lets you get creative. On the other hand a library is useful, especially for drums.

agreed keep a library of drums and bass but work on samples right away cos when inspiration strikes gotta use it

yeah, don't be like me and have over 100 unfinished beats saved on a compactflash card in your MPC that aren't going anywhere... try to finish those projects while they're fresh... you gotta strike while the iron is hot. [no homo? i ain't even taking no chances around here. ]

u can sample a loop the chop it up but if u catch a ill loop a certain kind of way there is a dj type ear in catching something out of context and making a whole song with a different vibe outta it

i go thru samples lookin for anything that catches my ear. if its a complimentary sound like drums, bass, single hit instruments, etc. i save it and keep lookin, but if i find a dope loop i start workin on it right away.

i got a cf card full of random complimentary sounds i came across over the past few years so its no prob finding things like that to build with.
