how do i get pro tools to record whats on my mpc 1000

Wow, I am new to this board and I am sure this thread is very old. I mean no offense, but I hope responses like yours are not commonplace on this board. No offense, but can we show at least some semblance of understanding? The guy is asking a question in a "getting started" room and he is being grilled because he is asking a question that a newbie SHOULD know already. Please don't take this personally.

just because it's called "getting started" doesn't mean you shouldn't at least TRY to learn the basics on your own... it's not called the "spoon-feeding section" now is it? this is one of those questions that could be easily answered by opening a manual or by doing a 1-second google search... besides, i'm tired of all these cats that watch some youtube interview of their favorite producer and all they get from it is that they'll automatically be able to make beats just like them if they simply buy an mpc off of ebay and then download protools from a torrent site... then they come here while scratching their asses and ask us "so how do i do this?"... look around and you'll notice i'm willing to help people that have VALID questions... but this whole generation of kids saying "hold my hand while teaching me how to make music step by step" can go suck a fat one, lazy muthafuggas. you think someone taught us the basics? if you're gonna pay for something, at least TRY to read the manual before resorting to the internet on some instant gratification sh!t... making music is an artform... much like painting is... and i don't mean painting by numbers. would you buy a lexus and then go on the lexus messageboard asking "so how do i drive this thing?"... i didn't think so.

and this whole "you gotta use pro tools" phenomenon that's been taking place as of recent years is ridiculous as well to say the least. why insist on using a professional DAW if you don't even know how to record audio into your computer in the first place? this guy obviously didn't buy it if he isn't willing to value it for what it is... i ain't gonna help some lazy torrent downloading muthafugga just because he can't be bothered to pick up the basics on his own. sorry.

Are you kidding me? I have enough time trying to figure out what those 16 little grey square things are on the MPC. Can you please tell me? Oh, and can you please tell me what those holes in the back of the equipment are for? I read my manual, but I still don't get it.

Cool. I'm using the 2000xl MCD. Man, I make a little of everything (don't we all say that)? My passion is old skool soul, hip hop, and nasty arse funk. Yourself?

i grew up listening to late 80's and early 90's hiphop as a young one... watching Rap City and Yo MTV Raps when i'd get home from school, so my true passion is for 90's hiphop... the golden age stuff... around '97 [once more music-making software started coming out for the PC] i started getting into that and was making drum n bass and other faster-paced electronic stuff by then [IDM i guess you could say] on a computer with strictly software... at some point i took a break from making tracks, but i eventually went back to my roots and once i actually had money to drop on gear i started buying hardware samplers & all that good stuff and got back into the classic hiphop sound... i now have about 5 samplers [including 3 different MPCs] and find myself using the mpc1000 the most for some reason... i do also have the 2000xl though, which is built better, but the JJOS for mpc1000 and mpc2500 is pretty unbeatable when it comes to operating systems for the MPCs... i love the art of sampling, digging for sounds off of records, chopping stuff up and turning it into something different than the original source [as do most people here]... i'm from that time when hip-hop was a bit of a mystery as far as how it was made... you had to EARN the knowledge and skills and put your time in if you wanted to make beats of your own... hence why i have such a low tolerance for dipsh!t kids that want instant gratification on some "how do i plug this in?" sh!t... hiphop doesn't come with tutorials as far as i'm concerned... equipment comes with a manual and that's all you get imo... this forum is cool for sharing knowledge, but you gotta figure the basics out on your own if you wanna get any kind of respect from me or most other ol school hiphop heads for that matter. that's where i'm coming from...

Rap City used to have the finest underground videos then later they got a little crazy with the down south vibe, nothing wrong with that but they played it too damn much that it eventually got taken off the air.

Back on topic, crossing grew up on the same path I did. You had to figure stuff on your own and if you knew at least the basics then the older cats would teach you more things, thats the way its always been. We can't be wasting our time and knowledge on someone that just woke up one morning and wants to be a producer, those people have no passion, therefore they are kept in the dark. But we do help those that show at least a grain of knowledge on what they want to do. It takes one to know one and real recognizes real, simple as that.

actually, i got bigger plans than that... i'm gonna get rich by hiring some programmers and putting together the ultimate DAW for kids nowadays... i'll call it NOOB TOOLS.

it'll have pop-ups that remind you can't record audio when all you have plugged in is a MIDI cable and all that good shtuff...
