Getting this thread back on topic....

We know that the MPC Ren will have 128 tracks that can be MPC (drum, keygroup programs), External MIDI, or VST instruments. With the addition of VST effects, and importing of legacy MPC programs/sounds...it would be silly to compare the MPC Ren or Studio with any MPC running JJ OS.

From what Andy has shown in the videos, I can't think of anuything the JJ OS can do better. But I would invite those that disagree to jump in and express their opinions about said products (and not what you feel about me  ). :P

as an interested user/developer i wonder some things that i'd like your input on - based on my personal experience with my tools:

what would make VST effects used on MPC tracks in REN any better than VST effects as implemented on an input from MPC in a DAW?

the immediate response, i'd imagine, is that you could do this with as many tracks as you want. however, i question the worth of this. i use an MPC1000, which has 6 outputs. most of my songs cannot be described as minimal, i run a lot of samples out of my MPC into DAW and yet i never feel limited by my admittedly low number of outputs.

From what Andy has shown in the videos, I can't think of anuything the JJ OS can do better.

this becomes a touchingly hilarious personal issue between the user and the used. modesty but not jokes aside, i could be described as "Tron-like" in my agility and speed of navigation through JJOS. how does one show evidence that such confidence can be nurtured in a relationship with another platform? let's have a video displaying active REN users working swiftly and confidently in the environment!

to me, one thing that jjos can do that REN can't is automate tasks. let's be straight up. i can build a macro to get me to any screen in JJOS that i want in less than a second. in jjos, i can build a midi controller to trigger specific actions and commands. does REN have a macro or action-chain configuration?

you and i, we are beyond pettiness and deep in the realm of nerdy cliquish intellectualism. my good natured question is, what is REN going to do for users who want to work smart?

Nym, there is no way I could ever sell you on the MPC Ren as a replacement for the MPC 1000 running a JJOS. That would be like trying to convince Preemo to forgo the MPC 60 and S950. If you have something that completely works for you, there is no reason to change.

No matter how much I love MPCs, I have been in these forums supporting MPCs and petitioning Akai to incorporate features that make using them easier in a software environment. The MPC 5000 came close but still came up short. I am pretty sure everyone has seen my feature requests for Akai and JJ OS. I see the MPC Ren as the product I have been waiting years for.

Personally, I don't see the MPC Ren/Studio as a DAW replacement (nor a replacement for hardware MPCs..as I will always keep one). To me...DAW=Multitrack tape deck and MPC=Music Production workstation. An MPC with VST implementation...complete integration of software and hardware can't be duplicated with a generic controller...at least not to my complete satisfaction. The MPC Ren makes it possible to easily control up to 96 parameters of your VST instrument without touching a mouse. This is just scratching the surface. Plus...no more syncing to a DAW...no more tracking into a DAW using multiple passes...no more saving projects in two locations, etc.

I am sure that any user that is as passionate about the MPC Ren as you are with your 1000 and JJOS...and have 6+ years of experience on it...can also move with the same speed and agility. But I also confident that any long time MPC user can swiftly and confidently navigate the MPC Ren. The screens shots pretty much look like every other MPC to include JJ OS. I can't think of a reason why any MPC user can't quickly get aroung the MPC Ren.

In the end, when we talk about these MPCs, we are talking opinions and personal preferences. You speak of external MIDI controllers triggering specific actions and commands. I am personally happy with the MPC Ren's controllers having one-button access to 8 of 12 modes...shift + button to access the other 4 modes. But the reality is..since it is computer software, the product can grow to include shortcuts/keycommands and anything else you might find or want in a software product.

I know you have doubts about support...but this product can grow way beyond that of any MPC as it is not limited by CPU power and RAM. Numark/Akai are putting in a lot of resources to make this a successful product more than any MPC ever made from what I have seen.

I have the same questions for quite a few features of the JJ OS. Of course I don't approach the subject because its not about an individual users wants/needs.. Everyone wants something different so these operating systems need to cater to a broad range of individuals.

I guess you missed that part. It is pointless to say such and such features is worthless in these forums when there could be others that love them.

Nym implied that VST instrument tracks in the MPC Ren is not a big deal as you can MIDI your MPC 1000 w/ JJ OS to your DAW and accomplish the same thing. I counter that it is a big deal for many of us that have been wanting this feature for a long time. It is a big deal for Maschine users that love this feature.

While the MPC Ren is not a DAW (Pro Tools, Logic, DP, Nuendo/Cubase) replacement as it will lack the power and flexibility of these mature applications....perhaps one day it could be.

You are just upset because I didn't give you ammo for I what I see would be a pointless debate. And you do what you always do when you can't have an intelligent and respectful conversation....you start name calling.

The MPC Ren incorporates VSTs directly...the JJ OS currently doesn't. To counter that VSTs are not needed is not a good argument. And the fact that the MPC Ren has 4 MIDI outs, you can still sequence external MIDI gear to include VSTs.

Without user preference taken into account, I believe the Ren software will be superior to JJ os IF a few things happen. 1) it cant be glitchy or buggy, 2) they have to stay current with their updates. A few months ago I got and used a Maschine before my motherboard died. I enjoyed a lot of the benefits of the software, my only real problem was my learning curve. Not in a sense of figuring it out but more about muscle memory, I can run just about any mpc with my eyes closed due to prolonged use and on the maschine I was constantly looking for buttons or knobs to navigate. The Ren will negate this problem and should work ideally but the software needs to be flawless. Also I read a few times were Andy stated things wont be on the first version but will come on updates, which makes me wonder why not put it in there now if you're already developing it, gives me a sense that development is being rushed. The addition of wav editing on the screen is a big deal. I could theoretically work all on the mpc as usual and only look at the pc screen for post editing and daw integration. BUT since my motherboard crashed, and it will be a while before I rebuild my computer it reminds me of why I wish the Ren could go standalone, I have no music computer at the moment but production hasn't slowed, the 60 and 2xl still turn on and work. But that topic is for another thread.

This is a new MPC. There are 10 MPC models with numerous features plus there is the JJ OS. To add every single feature of every MPC ever made would be an incredible undertaking. Plus Akai has already added features not possible on any other MPC.

In my opinion...adding the core MPC functions and additional features that make it more appealing than other products on the market must come first...and ensuring these functions operate with a minimal amount of bugs. Only then should additional features be slowly implemented. Otherwise, we would have a new MPC with tons of features but not work.

I see what you're saying, Im just apprehensive of any software until it hits the market and is tested by different users in different enviorments and workflows. A lot of companies rush to release and I often disagree with that approach and hope Akai doesnt take it.

vsts inside the machine mean higher latency and cpu load. so i am glad that jjos doesn´t incorporate vsts.

my 2500 has 4 midi outs so i can control my hardware modules. and if i want to use virtual instruments i can do this too. plus my mpc runs stand-alone.

why do you care anyways? i mean you don´t even make beats

You do know you get the same higher latency and CPU load when you MIDI your MPC to virtual instruments?

The JJ OS will never directly incorporate VSTs so you can sleep soundly at night.
