When queuing up the next sequence in End Of Sequence mode, it would be handy to have some control over what tracks are muted, beyond whatever you prepared beforehand. Of course, it would be useful to be able to still mute tracks of the currently playing sequence.

I think a toggle key, like Shift or something, would be really handy for this. Queue the next sequence, toggle muting control over to the next sequence, mute/unmute the tracks for the next sequence while the pattern is playing out, toggle back to the current sequence mutes, mute some tracks for the transition to the next sequence.

Obviously this wouldn't do anything when there's no next sequence selected, and it doesn't make sense for the other two modes. Therefore this option should only appear when there's both another sequence lined up and you're in End of Sequence mode.

It only takes a second to hit record in mute screen to set up next sequence. Or you could set up mute groups and then use them to to control next sequence. ie one group for one sequence another group for another sequence.

I don't quite understand what you're saying. It seems like with using the record button, you are talking about recording track mutes as part of sequence. That's different from what I want to do. Maybe I didn't explain what I want to do well? I want to set which tracks are muted in the next sequence, while I am playing the current sequence.

I understand that mute groups make it a little easier to mute several groups at a time, which helps somewhat when switching to a new sequence. But I don't quite understand how you can actually use the mute groups to control the next sequence.

At first I thought you might be saying that muted groups were global, so I could mute group 1 on one sequence and switch to another sequence and group 1 would still be muted. But this is not the case - the track mutes are still always remembered from the previous sequence's track mute state. In fact, even if you mute a group of tracks and add then another unmuted track to that group, the track will stay unmuted until you either unmute and re-mute the group, or directly mute the new member.

TL;DR - As far as I know, you cannot change track mute states of a sequence that isn't currently playing, while the sequencer is running. It would be handy if there was a way to do so.

Yeah well like I suggested you can record the mute settings and even though you can not preempt the next sequences you can at least save mutes

Yeah thats where you do ya drop
literally.
jokes. I really suggest you then just highlight Use events: ON to Use events:OFF. and then use mute groups. turning it back on will then go back.

Not seeing how that solves the problem. You still have to record those mute events in advance, no?

the real solution is to learn to hit pads in time to the music really.
i mean lets be honest here, thats what we are talking about. Because also you say you want

So what you want is to set up track mutes when its playing but not set it up before its playing...... either way you still have to set it up right? see what i am saying here. So there is always going to be set up time. So if you hit pads in time, use mute groups and use events:on/off you can do anything.

I don't think so. I'm talking about, for example, muting that hi hat track you just realized you don't want playing when you queue up the next sequence. That doesn't really relate to hitting pads in time to the music.

Kinda sorta. If you can mute the tracks on the fly for the next sequence according to what feels right at that moment, that gives you a lot more control in a live situation. Otherwise you have to frantically mute things you don't want playing if you forgot to turn them off.

Also I'm failing to see how mute groups and even moreso events solve the problem.

I guess one workaround would be to program sequences so that they don't start on the first beat of the bar, or just otherwise make sure nothing interesting is happening at the beginning of the sequence. That's kind of goofy though.

a forum is a place to discuss ideas. Its not like you have worn out your welcome at all, no on the contrary, any one is welcome, especially when on topic, to discuss. So I tell you what I think! you can ignore it if you want. Im on topic, its relevant.

err yeah it does in the mute screen when the sequence change happens. Thats what i do. hit the mute pad. Do you sequence any mutes at all ? I know I know you want the pre-emptive strike mute track at sequence change. See the thing is though, what happens if you are working on a long sequence for instance that has all those sequence changes in it, like you know song mixdown stuff. then its like not that good as there is not that sequence change to trigger your pre-emptive mute.

Yep, that's what you have to do currently. But if you have some crash cymbal or stab or something that happens at the very beginning of the bar - 001.01.00 - which is a pretty common place to put this kind of thing, you can't mute that before it starts playing when the sequence changes. I guess the answer is to always keep those muted when you save them, unless you're totally sure that the first time you play those sequences you want those events to occur.

bliprock wrote:Do you sequence any mutes at all ?

No, I don't see the point, really.

Are you talking about song mode? You can't switch modes while in song mode anyway. If you hit Track Mute, you will get to the track mute screen as you normally would, but you are silently kicked out of song mode and can't go back until you stop the sequencer.

Yeah i use mutes alot in sequence. Just hit over dub + stop when stopped, then mute/unmute to place in sequence.

No
I was playing around and thought maybe assign a master mute track for instance and change groups on the fly but the other tracks that are changed to that mute group are not affected. I think this would be maybe a better way as it gives you the options to change it to any group and have a track that mutes a group in the beginning of you sequence. I tried it and its a shame it does not work, cos yeah it would be useful live. though still have to make a master mute track to enable the mutes to be activated say at each sequences start, as you want.

So for instance i go into mute screen, and have a short sequence with a track that mutes and unmutes. Now if you assign a mute group after the fact and assign this mute group to another track it does not mute the other track assigned to that same mute group number. But in this case the sequence mutes over ride the groups settings it seems. If i set mute groups up before i recorded my so called mute track then yes of course all the tracks in that mute group do indeed mute, as it records the group being recorded. but not after the fact as it seem that the sequencer over rides mute groups, in fact with no mute info in a track but assigned to same group there is no effect. maybe being able to toggle this on and off would be an idea. because as you can set group as it plays, it means you can of course then choose tracks that correspond to your mater mute group track. make sense? A toggle for the mute groups to over ride sequence maybe. but i think its like that for a reason maybe, as to make sure tracks mute info is given precedence. Hmmm. or maybe make mute group 9 the one that is the master one that can over ride sequence data like no other mute group. Thats an idea, i just had. So if we ever use mute group 9 it will take precedence over sequence data unlike other mute groups.

The only other pob is see is that when you are assigning mute groups as it plays it ignores mute groups, lol. so you have to do it quick in between any muting you have lol. a minor annoyance, but if that could be over come as well then it would be pretty good.
