MPC5000 reviews, bug reports and fellow user support on the most recent standalone, hardware MPC from Akai
By Jayson Wonder Fri May 25, 2012 8:27 pm
Hello All,

I just picked up an MPC 5000 however the hard drive is empty and the ROM is empty.

I have managed to get my hands on the Loopmaster folder sounds but I need to know what was in the ROM and how can I get stuff in ROM.

Trying to get it back to factory settings before I start to load all of my stuff from my old MPC's on to it.

Thanks in advance,

factory settings for an MPC is no sounds..... welcome to the world of sampling. try recording some samples of your own into it [aka "sampling"]... don't just settle for the sounds you can download off the interwebz...

Dude, with all due respect you did not read my post. If you are gonna comment at least read what I wrote before looking for any chance to act like a boss.

For real, I know what sampling is and have been doing it my whole life on several hardware and software platforms. I mentioned in my post that I wanted to have the factory sounds on there before loading up all of my OWN stuff from my other gear.

Call me a gearhead or freak but I am curious to see and hear what the 5000 shipped with. Never said I want the factory sounds to create my next banger with.

I am interested in what / how to get the ROM sounds back in not just samples but synth presets also.

If anyone can advise on this I would appreciate.

Thanks

Don't know by hearth how to add the factory samples in the ROM, but I do know you don't have to wait for that to save your own sounds, because you can't access it anyways when saving or in USB mode.

ok thanks, i assume the rom flash is where the synth sounds like strings, pianos, etc that came with it would have gone.

i read your post... so you can drop the attitude, assh0le... you're the one asking dumb questions here... you already got the loopmasters sounds... those are the sounds that shipped with the mpc5000... if you don't know how to load them, then i'd suggest referring to your manual... or simply trying first...

Well I guess that is the kind of response I would have expected from you. I know how to load sounds. Maybe I am asking the wrong question. It is the internal ROM flash sounds I am trying to add. They include synth presets, etc. Not referring to loading the loopmaster samples and programs. I have that done now.

As far as I can see the manual says nothing about how to retrieve or install the internal ROM sounds.

Thanks to anyone who can help.

try reinitializing the mpc5000 to restore the factory defaults... the synth PGMs may still be in ROM memory... page 198 of your manual...

Yes, thanks I have tried these steps in page 178 and reset / initialized back and have nothing in there. I would think AKAI has a method to retrieve these. I wonder if I would have to install an earlier OS to get then back. I guess this happens when you buy used...

Still on a mission for a solution of some sort. Thanks for your thoughts, did not mean to seem snappy.

The ROM sounds(factory sounds) should be there. Otherwise check AkaiPro site for the download. And I remember now the Loopmaster sounds were on the hardrive and not the ROM.

i thought the internal ROM was "read only", meaning that those files couldn't be deleted... but since he was saying the files weren't there... i don't really know what to say...

Yeah when you get it from the factory it has the autoload on with the factory songs, pgms & some synth sounds. He could try and find the autoload file and turn it on. IF it wasnt erased by the previous owner.
IF the OP's sounds are on the rom..... He should be able to hit Mode + disk, scroll down to rom, hit the cursor button to the right & that should get him to the 808,909, Linn kits and so on.

If that stuff doesn't show up then his next option like mention above is to down load the whole 2.0 update to a cf card and reinstall the whole thing.
Hope this helps you out.

Hello All,

Thanks for your replies. I have reinstalled the whole 2.0 OS and still nothing in ROM. Clearly I am missing something or doing something wrong. I have no issue with the factory samples on the HDD (Loopmaster). I had a backup of that entire directory that I downloaded from the net. All I see there are programs and samples which I am glad to have but I am actually looking for the factory ROM sounds which should include synth presets and perhaps some other generic Akai sounds. I know my 500 and 1000 had a small library of various instruments minus synth sounds that are only 5000.

I will look into searching for the autoload file that I have yet to find. If anyone could tell me where it is suppose to be exactly I would appreciate that. Even better if anyone could send me the file and related ROM files so I could load I would be very appreciative. Assuming that the ROM can be accessed at all.

Thanks for your paitience and assistance thus far!

not sure about 5k but at least in 2500 case, factory presets are available for download directly from akais website

How are you going about looking for the presets?
You do understand how they load?
