I had to tip my hat to this guy. He just used native stuff in a setup that wasn't that impresive.
Go there and listen to the quality chek out his bio all from his Cubase system no out side studios. Sampler, Sond fonts, keyboard accoustic guitar and a computer using cubase, internal fx and at the time a Uad fx card. Especially chek out "I'm Not The Enemy".
Actually all recorded, mixed and mastered in Cubase VST

Basically, I believe you can make a great record (unless you're recording mostly live or classical) on anything if you know how to use your ears...
