Ren vs 2500 with jjos

But what are your thoughts on the Ren vs 2500 w/JJ OS?

I had a 2500 with JJOS - its a great machine in terms of functionality, but I did end up selling it to get a 3000.
Don't regret this trade up (trade down ?) for a moment. Im sure you could maybe replicate the sound of the 3000 with a 2500, but you would need extra stuff to do it. More new boxes, more new things to learn...more new configs etc...
In terms of my own personal workflow, I prefer keeping the drums/sampling stuff relatively simple - its linked up with Ableton, so if I need anything complex I'll do it there.
I can understand gear lust as well as anyone, I've pretty much owned every mpc out there - but I've just reached a point where Im happy with what gear I have right now...

Word. Even though I love my MPCs...I think I made some of my best bangers and prestine sounding beats on that $300 Reason 3.5 program(haven't upgraded in years).

Samples come through sounding lovely in Reason.

Yeah I got rid of mine to get a 4K. 4k's a better machine to me, but I was way more prolific with the 2.5k JJ OSXL. Ideas and beats flow on that thang.Excellent work flow and modulation matrix. I knew the right parameters to make my drums hit tremendously.

look at jah trying to talk about JJOS having bugs...

the JJOS is updated almost daily... meanwhile jah is one of the people responsible for the buggiest OS ever released by AKAI... the mpc5000's... which may NEVER get updated at this point. just put a damn sock in it already, jah... seriously... you ran out of arguments ages ago... at least wait until the ren is actually released before trying to compare it to anything out there that actually exists...

JJ OS is being "updated daily" because he is fixing bugs. On 7 April, there was an OS update which fixed a bug and added a new feature. But this OS had at least 10 bugs in it. These bugs weren't fixed until June. It takes nothing away from the support he his providing MPC users....but it still has bugs after several years of development....fact.

I have never written an operating system in my life so I am not sure how I am responsible for the bugs in any product. I use these products and report what I find. Nothing more.

This thread is about the Ren (unreleased) vs the JJ OS. Sound on Sound write reviews on products that haven't been released yet all the time. So what's wrong with talking about a product that isn't out yet...but you have seen? I will continue to give my opinion on this topic as long as it remains open.

whoa calling out Sound on Sound there... I think they write reviews on products that haven't been released yet because they get to test & use them before anyone else...

I don't think anybody knows enough about the Ren to draw a comparison. I will say this though. JJ has way more credibility than the new Akai. He really supports his OS and is in touch with the MPC user. Plus the attention to detail like the Paino Roll like interface with the Midi Notes. when you hit a pad it displays the name of the sound. The seamless midi control of sound modules and the ability to turn individual pads into chords. The Modulation matrix is even top notch.

We shall see how the Ren compares. Quality control isn't really a strong suit of the new Akai though.

But the JJ OS is still not bug free. So if Akai releases an OS with bugs but releases frequent OS updates which adds new features, fixes the bugs and add new ones...that's ok?
