What to do, what to do

How do you listen to songs you're gonna sample? Do you sit there and say to yourself "i'm gonna listen to these next records and find samples" or do you just listen to songs and make a note (mentally or physically) of what to sample later when you're not busy?

What I find myself doing is either sitting there listening to every nuance of the record, which is sort of impossible for me to do for hours.. or I watch TV muted or read shit on the internet. I love music but I it's just really hard to sit down and listen to music without doing something physically.

Suggestions?

i do both.

I know there are alot of songs out but alot of us don't have the time to listen to every song on every record all the way through.So if you hear somethin' you like or think you can use jot it down and come back to it later when you have time.(Keep a notebook though cause it's easier.)

Theres no special rule...A lot of it has to do with your ear. How you listen to records can save u a lot of time. Over time, u'l develope your own formula.

Things usually have to jump out at you and fuel an idea. If you jus try to use any ald random sample without any real conviction, u probably wont end up using it to well.
I listen to anything...I never narrow my focus...However, I know within a short space of time if I can feel anything from the record. If I can, I'll listen to the whole record and make mental notes of parts of the record I think could use. If not, I'll move on to the next.

Its all in the ear tho...Theres been times when I'll be banging on about a sample to frenz sitting in the studio with me and their like lol
But, when I do my thing and flip it, then their like Lol
Only joking...They appreciate what I was going on about. They just couldnt hear it in its ruff form.

^yea i know how that goes.. well that thing about samples jumping out makes perfect sense. i guess i'll just keep doing my thing and let my ear 'develop'.

I play some classic orchestra type stuff from video games and movie soundtracks while I'm cleaning my house. It comes out the speakers, I hear it, I write down on paper the track, what minute/second in the track and that's that. I get back with it later on.

Ridin in my vehicle I will listen to the classical channel/station also.
