This fool tried several different burning methods for the CD. This fool tried the fix suggested by Mr. Dog. I've wasted a lot of time on this to do something that should have taken 5 minutes. I'm sorry if I don't want to waste any more time hoping that you are going to do anything that you haven't already done in your first two posts.

Not exactly, chronologically at least. After you got the samples on the mpc did you then create a program and load those samples onto pads?

Load samples onto pads,
Name and save program,
Load program and samples should be on pads.

If that's not it then your issue is beyond my abilities which doesn't say much but says a lot when they're beyond Lamp's.

this dude can't even figure out how to load preset sounds and he wants to criticize the MPC for lacking "dynamic character"... wtf is up with some people? at least learn how to use an MPC before trying to give it a negative review...

Thanks for trying to help and at least reading my posts. I apologize for my critique which failed to mention that I listened and thought it was pretty good (did you really think I was going to say something nice when I thought you were just being a smart ...?)
I loaded the sounds and assigned them to pads. I opened the program and tested the pads. I loaded the song and selected the program and tested the pads again. I played the song and it did not sound right, kick playing when it should be closed high hat e.g.
Again, I thank you for reading and responding. I have taught math to kids with poor math skills and training so I know how I must look to some of you. Like I said, I'm an audio guy with little experience doing anything with the MPC other than sending drum sequences in audio format to my DAW. When I agreed to take on this project I did not expect that I would have to become expert in the nuts and bolts.

Look, everybody calm the **** down and let's get this solved.

If you notice where a high hat is playing where a kick should be then manually PUT that high hat note to that pad and test play the seq again. Same for the other instruments/samples. If the PGM isn't assigning samples to the proper pads you need to manually assign notes to other pads. Yes it requires patience and some time. If your not willing to put that work in then it won't happen and there's no other way to say it. 2kxl is not as automatic as computer daws, it's very old technology remember? Assigning samples to notes to pads is manual UNLESS your APS and PGM are in good shape.

@op and everyone, quit with the **** up replies, includes me too because I almost caught a case.

Here is a link to the manual.
files/MPC2000XL/MPC2000XL_manual.pdf

Figure out how to assign samples to notes.
Figure out how to assign notes to pads.
2kxl has 4 DRUMS.

DRUM 1 = banks a+b+c+d
DRUM 2 = banks a+b+c+d
DRUM 3 = banks a+b+c+d
DRUM 4 = banks a+b+c+d

2kxl can have 26 PGM in memory but you can ONLY have 4 PGM's (DRUMS) active at once, if you want to activate a 5th pgm you'll need to replace one that is already active. No, you can't scroll through inactive PGM's and listen to them.

A 1 PGM takes up 1 whole DRUM.

APS is the saved collective of all DRUMS (PGM's with pad assignments, pad parameter settings etc.)

PGM is a saved collective of banks a+b+c+d, 64 pads = 64 samples total.

ALL is the saved collective of all seq's and songs, and mixer/effects settings.

a drum track in main menu is for samples recorded on tracks.
a midi track is when you have other gear midi'd to your mpc.

Standard is recording 1 sample per drum track, choose a different
sample and choose a different tracks and add on to that same seq.

The rest is on you OP. I'm really give up this time.

Thanks, Dog. I guess I will have to rebuild this program 1 sound at a time. Fortunately the guy who created the song.all file gave us a mixed down copy of the cd so I can probably put my ear to it and fix it. What do you think about writing out a note map from the sequences and trying to match the sounds to the notes while I listen to the audio file?
Thanks again for your help, I have a copy of the manual and I read it enough to know that I would have to know what notes these sounds were supposed to be assigned to for the song file to play properly.
I'm ok with double, just a little frustrated and not much of a sense of humor at this point. Made some of my best friends as a kid through a good fight.

I've recreated several beats I've lost by listening to unfinished audio from my computer. So have MANY other people. Welcome to the club.
