What's funny reading these threads is that Akai has never posted specific release dates for MPCs in advance to the best of my knowledge. All the release dates for the past few MPCs were only advertised shortly before the MPC started shipping.

The MPC 5000 dropped with no warning sign. One day we were in the forum guessing when it would be in stores. And the next day, I happened to walk into GC and two MPC 5000s boxed up were sitting on a table.

The MPC 2500 never had an advertised release date. I called local dealers in Japan that gave me an estimation. A few days before it arrived, I received a phone call. I bought three. At that time...no US retailer had a release date for the MPC 2500. I quickly sold two MPC 2500s on eBay when no retailer had them yet. And these retailers called Akai complaining I was selling the MPC 2500 below their advertised prices. I got several emails via eBay questioning whether I was an authorized dealer....

The point of this...chill out. It will be released when its released...obviously. Late Summer was the initial advertised street date. Its still Spring. The end of the Summer is still a few months away. "Yup..Yup", says Teddy Riley.

Yes, it seems like an early to mid 4th quarter release. I still think the Ren is way overpriced and that the in built interface needs to be at least the quality of a unit retailing for at minimum half the Ren's price tag to have the necessary low latency. I get 2.9-3.2ms true RTL latency on an RME Multiface II/PCI-e and that interface costs $50 more than the Ren itself. But those are the RTL numbers that need to be hit to feel like an MPC or hardware synth.

They did say they went the custom driver route which is the key for them to pull this off. Most interface drivers on the market are builds adapted from a company called Ploytec. I realized this after some research into why sub $700 interfaces from various manufacturers exhibited the same shortcomings and sometimes identical wonky behaviors. Read a lot of fine print and saw that M-Audio, Presonus and others were just adapting some driver from the USB 1.1 days.

RME, MOTU, Echo and Apogee all outperform most anything because they write quality custom drivers that work with that particular hardware. Again I'm glad Akai is approaching it intelligently like that. The optimization of that driver would likely be something they work on until the zero hour and definitely contribute to a end of summer or early fall release. For prospective buyers that can only be a good thing.

I could see myself copping a Studio at some point. But honestly these boxes duplicate so many things I can already do now with any 2 pieces of equipment I have now. But for those with less gear or who want to streamline this could be a nice fit for them.

Just spoke to a phone rep with Sweetwater.com today June 11, 2012, he confirmed that Akai has pushed the eta of the Renaissance back to July 25. Damn, Damn, Damn, Damn!!!!

you mean pushed the date of the next announcement of the eta being pushed lol

I just checked my order in my account at sweetwater website and on my invoice it showed and release date of 8-14-2012 so could possibly be a august release or later then that given akai track record.

Well I guess this is good for NI Maschine to make more money thru-out the summer.

Does any one know if the Studio will come out on the same day as the Ren?

Not until Oct now so concentrate on the mpc's you have now til then.
