Back To Factory Status

Well I was trying to load them as per akai instructions. Pressing and holding F6 and 3 while powering on. I get an error saying cannot find .bin although that is the only thing on the cf card.

Id there another way? Please share what I am missing thanks.

Copy it to your hardrive?

Ok, Question is what do I copy and to where. I am not sure how to get things from the hard drive to the ROM. Please give me more details.

I spoke to an Akai employee online and he suggested that there may be a ROM boot block issue. Has anyone heard of this before? The machine is working perfectly great other then the fact that the ROM presets got wiped out and I cannot seem to erase or reflash the ROM but it will however take an OS upgrade reinstall.

Also is anyone familiar with hard reseting the machine from the PCB / on the mainboard or remove ROM chips? I see there is a small battery on the mainboard but it seems to be solderd in place so I cant remove to try and reflash ROM.

Still searching for a method to fix before sending the unit in for service.

Problem Fixed.

After talking to and AKAI rep on the phone today I got the answer and the fix to problem I had previously.

I was advised that I needed a certain .BIN file which contained the ROM contents. It is not the OS but a different file which is 64mb in size.

They sent it to me and I reflashed the ROM and have all the contents of ROM back. I also have the file for future use should I need it again.

I don't see the point of deleting the ROM contents in future as doin so does not net me any more RAM. In additon, we cannnot access the ROM to load our own content anyway, so it does not matter. But what does is that persistence has overcome.

I must say I was very pleased at the way Akia responded. Fast and effective despite claims otherwise I would very happy to see them demonstrate that care and give us an OS3 or equivalent update / fix at some point so this 5k can be even better!

Yeah, the deal here is that you can erase the ROM (F6=3) but to put the factory content back in it can only be done through a .BIN file.

If someone could decompile / compile the .BIN file it might be possible to fill that space with our own content. Not sure what the total size of ROM is but I know it is at least 65mb as that was the file size of the ROM backup .BIN.

Yea, the new one I got works good, but had a frigin ding above the screen like it was hit with something or dropped (who knows). It seems to work ok, and was going to "live with it" but for the money I saved for a new unit its starting to get to me. The used 2500 I bought for half the price didnt even have a dent on it. I just have the worst luck. Now they thing this is a "crazy coincidence".

Oh yeah, that is crazy. Hope they replace it for you.

Yea they are gonna. But this one works perfectly, and the part thats dented is only 8 bucks on MPCParts.com. I emailed them asking if you just replace it with the four screws on the back of the screen and they said yes, but you have to take the whole screen off by opening the entire unit. I took a look of some pictures of someone else taking apart the unit, and it don't look too inviting lol. Though, it still looks to me that if you pop these four screws off, it should pop out. I posted a separate post on this to see if anyone else knew, but nada.
