[update] i got that dirty SP12 turbo...

It probably sound like this. TURN DOWN VOLUME Not as cool as the SMPTE sound Premier used for some tracks IMO

^^^ yeah, it basically sounds like 12 minutes of that there... like an old dial-up modem. i just record the sound as a WAV file into my computer [then later convert it to MP3]... then i play it back into the SP12 for loading... the only tricky part is getting the volume at the perfect playback level when loading... it took me 3 tries until i got the levels right.

Buuuuumpskies...props on the addition to the setup.

I know someone mentioned forat (which is way too costly for most of us) however, if getting it cleaned up and lookin' damn sharp is something you're interested in, I'd hit up ghostinmpc and see what would be worked out with your sp12. Worth a shot and wayyyy less costly.

i'll definitely post some pics once i manage to fix it up... some beats are in the works as well ... the nail polish isn't gonna come off without damaging the finish, so i'm currently seeking a replacement faceplate [or SP12 overlay] online to no avail... but in the meantime i'm learning this machine in & out... i'm still experimenting with it and getting used to how the SP-12 makes certain samples sound great and others sound like useless crap ... when they do sound nice they sound NICE though...

since this thread just got bumped by clint... i'll do my part as well...

months later, here's a pic of the SP12 after removing the nail polish... lesson learned... alcohol and/or nail polish remover will both remove the "protective clear coating" from the SP's face plate as suspected.




and for the sake of sharing how it sounds, here is a rough beat i just threw together in 10 minutes... 100% sampled and sequenced with the SP... recorded straight out the main mono output of the SP12 with no further editing. i would normally track this out properly and then mute drums/samples manually in a DAW or whatever... but this is just to showcase the SP12's sound... the guitar sample used here is from the last beat battle hosted here...

earlier this month i picked up a mint sp 12 without the memory upgrade..250.00..i drove 2 hrs for it..guy said call me for directions..i put it in gps..after getting 20 minutes away..from his place i know why he said call me.....was literally in the country on a farm...at one point i had to wait for a farmer to let all the cattle gross the road......one more call to him that was breaking in and out and I made it....of all places a mint sp 12 on a farm property with a studio on it...i love craiglist..im in florida...
