Is my data wheel going bad?

When i use it to go from one track or another or a seq. to another or change the tempo, i can skip many numbers easy and sometimes it becomes a pain. Lets say i want to slow down the tempo from maybe 90 to 88 or 87, well my mpc will sometimes just jump to 83 and i only nudge it a little. If i leave the cursor on what ever thats high lighted(lets say tempo) i have seen that change by its self while i was just bangin on the pads. I think this could be a sign of my data wheel just getting bad but its been doing this for about 2 years and hasnt got any worse from the time it started or i notice. Its something i could live with i just wanted to see what yall think. As far as shyt just changing by itself, well that dont happen much maybe every 2 months or so but its odd to look at some and then re look and its different and you didnt do nothing.
I have had this problem for a while and it has force me to use the (+) and (-) buttons on the mpc for for switch tracks and ill use the numbers when i can

it just started working fine after a bit. but the + and - buttons are really useful
