whoa! that's *long* time! i'm very surprised, that would be quite an issue for me, why so long as well tho? 4k's have fast modern ram and hdd no?

i guess the majority of projects aren't that large unless you approach the machine with a 'multi-tracking' mindset, ie a few megs of samples plus bloody great big 3 or 4 minute vocal or guitar 'tracks' ... which is how i'd like to use it

on the general issue of possible hard disk recording being implimented there is an additional factor to consider beyond just the streaming off hdd, and that is syncing midi and audio accurately plus any outgoing and incoming synchronisation ... a notoriously problematic area on pc's. This is a major software and hardware engineering task, i'm suddenley dubious.

perhaps the feature 'of interest to remixers' as someone hinted at is real time time stretching?

227 MB in 5 mins 30 secs?!

That's insane! That's err... 0.7MB per second! A modern computer does 40MB per second easily, so that computer would take about 5 secs to load that amount of samples.

Major UGH! I was planning to use a LOT of sample RAM, but this is unbelievable...

If streaming is added to the OS, I'm sure the diskload bandwidth will have to change. Maybe it's already much better than we know, and is sample load slow for some other reason.

ditto rob :(

also with a handful of good quality multisamples in memory (piano, double bass, strings) you could quite easily push half of that anyway without any multitracking-ish use of ram

strange

The ability to have different time signatures on different tracks is possible right now.
I think it's even possible to change
time signatures within the middle of the track but I'll have to check on that.

As for ability to loop tracks of different lengths:

It's been rumoured in a different thread that this will NOT make to this next OS. They
will be concentrating on the new "remix" features, but they are hoping to implement
individual track length into OS released sometime in 2005, though this is a completely unoffiical rumour.

Though I personally would never recommend one to purchase a product for what
might be implemented, only what's currenlty their. Thougth I do understand
waiting for the Beta OS to get an idea of what might be there farily soon, though
I'm not expecting this feature in this next release, though I would use it if was there...

Sean W said on the DPS forum that all the features have been implemented and are currently being tested internally. for what ever that's worth

Yo,Yo,Yo!!! Thats worth a huge load!!! :) :o :D :D
Is their anyway, users and waiting to buy 4k people, can aquire a copy of the list of features that are being tested (what features are 'all the features'...do you really mean all mentioned???...WoW
I say this in a constructive sense as when the new OS is released, if some of the features that we want arn't included that were tested, maybe some of the hyper clever peeps on this board could help akai/suggest ways that certain things 'could' be done (Im not one of these v.clever techie people, but I know a few are knocking about on this board). I know the akai is a very good machine at the mo, but together it can just develop into the most ultimate. When the OS is released, a list of 'tested but not possible to implement' features would be helpful.

food for thought; if the mpc4k uses a standard intel strongarm cpu (there are only a few variations) development tools are readily available, the os could be disassembled .....

anyway back to sean, his exact words were

The new features and improvements for the next OS update are already implemented, and we are now in an internal testing/debugging phase, before we can make it publicly available.

note he doesn't say *all* the features. 'testing' isn't so bad, but 'debugging', well i think we're looking at a few more weeks not days myself.

Hi Dustone,

I think that you have misquoted Sean on the DPS forum, he did NOT say all features have
been implemented (I know this for a FACT, as I've had feature requests turned
down by Akai, so I doubt that THEY are in it). What he said was this

from: http://p206.ezboard.com/fdpsworldfrm5.s ... =472.topic
"The new features and improvements for the next OS update are already implemented, and we are now in an internal testing/debugging phase, before we can make it publicly available."

So he's not saying that ALL features have been implemented, what he is saying is that
ALL the Features that they are going to integrate into THIS release have been integrated
and are currently being tested.

He's also indicated that he's not at the Liberty to state what the features are going to be
.

that's what I meant.

Modern computer's use the Intel Pentium 4 processor, the 4k uses the less powerful intel strongarm which is now discoutinued. The intel strongarm was primarily designed for hand held computers (Palm Pilots). Perhaps that is the reason for the long load time.
