The comparison chart is interesting. 128XL seems very similar to XL. The notable differences are with the q links and MIDI in cc's - which seem more restricted in 128. Perhaps this indicates a direction for os3 and maybe a return to additive qlink behaviour? Unless 128 is OS3 of course. The screen shots on JJ's page are very tempting, but for the time being a large screen is not on my wish list, so i do hope there will be an OS3 for regular screens. "Start/End point adjustment of a sample (Program mode)" is a useful little addition. (I've used NDC chops as a workaround for this though anyway)

Please perform installation of OS128XL from the load screen of OS128 bundled with large LCD. (From other OS's, it is not installable.)
Please adjust the contrast of LCD by the LCD side. (Adjustment of contrast cannot be performed in the MPC side)

The password of OS128XL is effective only in OS12XL.
Therefore, even if it enters the password of OS128XL, to use OS-XL, the password of OS-XL is required.

Please refer to the comparison chart of OS for a function.

Compatibility (The compatibility with other OS's is the same as OS-XL)
Although basic specification is the same as OS-XL, about the following, it is not compatible.
In ADSR, the value of the parameter which is not in OS128XL is not reflected.
The data of Q-link is not reflected.
A setup of not Non-Destructive Chop is not reflected.
A setup of mute of a program is not reflected.
Since specifications differ, a setup of a cycle is not reflected.
Other tracks are influenced when the same program is used. (It is the same specification as OS's other than OS-XL)

The function which is in OS-XL and is not in OS128XL
Since adjustment of the start/end of a sample was added to the program mode, there are not PgmMode and CHOP of a trim
The load of CPU is large, or since a problem arises, OS128XL does not have the following function.
Simul Sequence
PATCHED PHRASE
Q-link is only REAL TIME.
There are not SAMPLE START of Q-link, SAMPLE END, and CHOP.
OVER RAP mode of PROGRAM (INST)
ADSR
Pad Aftertouch
Pitch Bend Sensitivity
Bars loop
There is no function to control the value of the parameter of an effect by a MIDI controller.
The mixer of a pad is uncontrollable by a MIDI controller.
There is no function to assign the mode to the NUMERIC button.

Has he killed off Non-destructive chop?!

Numeric key customise looks to be binned too... Not good for 2500 users. :fku:

That doesn't seem encouraging but as it's still a beta let's wait and see.
"---" features in the comparison chart by the way.

wow. i think we're seeing the performance hit involved in getting the mpc to drive a screen twice as large as normal.

of course, it is to be expected that displaying twice as much information per screen would involve a higher cpu load,
but check out the carnage:

no SIMULT SEQUENCE :(
no EQL & EQH in the FILTER screen
no PATCHED PHRASE
no Q-LINK NOTE ON (!!!)
no Q-LINK SAMPLE START, SAMPLE END, & CHOP
no ADSR in PROGRAM (total deal killer right there!!!! :x :( )
no AFTERTOUCH
no BARS LOOP
no midi control of FX2 parameters
no midi control of the PAD MIXER
no assignable NUMERIC button :x
no AUTO CHOP
no PROGRAM mode in the TRIM screen
no GRID EDIT for AUDIO tracks
no SIMULT PAD mode 1
no adjustment of pitch bend sensitivity
no sample layer crossfade :x
no NON-DESTRUCTIVE CHOP
no line pattern in GRID EDIT
no hold of NOTE REPEAT
no loop hold of a sample

well... my interest in the large screen just went down to absolute zero. damn.
sorry MPCstuff. really wanted to get one of those. :(

hope you guys got a CPU upgrade for the MPC1000 in the works!

hope this isn't the shape of things to come for OS 3. keeping my fingers crossed...

Did you note the IMPROVED FX. What does that mean? are we gonna see a gate in there? Invert phase as well added to list. But not actually set as yes or no. just gets a cameo on the list? I would not miss patched phrase to be honest, but there is a ton of features i would miss

Well this officially makes the large screen a cosmetic upgrade instead of a performance enhancements.

It looks like the standard size aftermarket screens are still a much better option if you don't want the standard ugly green screen.

Definitely didn't anticipate losing features for a larger screen. :(

that really sucks for 2500 users, i think it was you who hipped me to that function.
although on my 1k i have been using the "main" and "numeric" button set to the main screen/program mode and grid edit/trim mode with good results. although i realize not everyone has the same workflow as me.

the no ndc, no adsr, and no note reapeat really sucks...

im just hoping he doesnt drop support for the xl or 2xl or whatever its called now...

+1 for never buying a extra large LCD until all the features are back.

JJ's taken this...

And turned it into this...

Unfortunately it's still just a Mini with a crappy underpowered engine. :(
