yeah i will be unable to use 128XL in my projects unless it has a full ADSR envelope. i'll still test it in hopes that some of these functions will come back.

one last point is that each time a new OS version drops, it's always like this and we've always ended up with a better platform, so i'm cautiously hopeful. as it stands i could use the current version of os2xl forever. just be cool and remember that we can't be too pissed, considering what we have in OS2XL compared to Akai OS 2.1 or whatever

I hope we see the interesting stuff from 128xl in 2XL, it seems strange to limit your market like that especially considering 2XL is the more expensive product.

I wonder what improved record is? Simult pattern sounds cool too.

I think we have to look at 128 as a specialty product not the evolution or direction of the OS.
The whole way it says to install it helps it to remain that way.
It's probably best not to consider it as a new OS.

If MPCstuff was to for some reason become unable to provide the screens at some point, it shouldn't affect the JJ platform.

I don't think anybody owning OS2XL will be shelling out for a actual downgrade.Just
stay tuned to see where this goes.

NDC type behaviour isn't gone for good - if you check out the pictures on the 2500 main page you can see how it's just implemented differently:

Although we cant see whether pad layers miss out on this new implementation or not.

filter looks to have ADSR (and pitch has ADS)

This is the effect screeen ,it seems like eq and compression might be routed before fx1 and fx2

Amp looks like it is just AD though.

I could actually live with this (despite being keen for JJ to implement it in the firstplace!) .Oddly it's the little things that'd mess with my current workflow. I depend on the bar loop feature extensively for my live stuff for instance. Although the large screen is cool, I didn't see it as something I need. After seeing the feature trade off I need it even less.

The remaining screen shots:

Yeah i agree with that.

on a side note: got some cool macros for quick bar loop adjustments - i really need to do another video ( hopefully in the next month)

edit:
I just checked the jj manual to see what he means by bar loop; id would be surprised if all the functionality of the current set up changes. If i can turn turn loops on/off and change first/last bars or length during play back i'll be good. Its so tempting to speculate about possible pros and cons - we've all been here before i reckon - but tha'ts part of the fun too.

I think by bar loop JJ means when you turn loop off and on it loops the current bar only. If it was just this then i might cope with this change.

some news from Murai:

Only OS128XL is developed now.
New OS for a standard screen is not made now.
OS128XL is made based on OS3 which was being developed.
Therefore, I think that it has the same feature as OS128XL supposing OS3 will be made in the future.
Still, OS128XL is not completion.
There may be a function added from now on.
Being written is the feature in the present version.

i have to say i'm a little pissed off at this whole large screen thing because it sounds like it derailed OS 3 which was in progress.

remember when JJ had OS 3 listed on his site as coming in a couple months, and then it got mysteriously pulled?
i guess now we know why.

i'm just going to keep my fingers crossed that OS 3 will eventually see the light of day and that it won't be as gimped as 128XL.

From what I understood in the past I think it corresponds to this screen :

No fkey for recording. Press REC and it records. I wonder what the range fkeys do though.

Check out the manual. Range just sets how much of waveform is displayed during recording.

Looking at the main screen screenshots, it seems you're now able to freely set midi input ch for a track (not limited to 1->16).

A bit annoyed tho that this is atm only for the big lcd and a lot of (essential) stuff got thrown away.

I think jj would get more clients for developing TOTALLY new os from scratch.. than that. IMO they won't get much money of it.

Ah no, MIDI/SYNC page explained that it's only displaying if you're running multitimbral mode or not.. could be an upcoming feature tho, cuz why else would there be that field.
