Will you be having LCDs that are 'stock' black and invert-able to white, or is this the only available option? Both of these look great but the white strip around the border kind of takes away from the white text on black look.

Nym wrote:yeah i've seen no implication that the large screen os3 will be any less functional than the small screen os3. historically jj has only supported one os at a time (across 2 machines, even) so i would assume he'll be doing pretty much the same.

in my case i'll be using smallscreen OS3 on my portable MPC and os128xl on my studio MPC. i have very little doubt that these projects will be fully compatible with one another. i think the confusion here comes from the naming convention. it might be wise to call it OS3 across the board: os3 64 and os3 128.

JJ OS128XL differences

Makes a real difference in how useful the larger screen may actually be.

I think OS128 is free/included with the screen, it's the XL version that will be paid for. Plus he might have an upgrade discount if you are already a paid JJOS user, who knows. Hopefully the CPU issues can be sorted and we can see come of the features back, or it may be a deal breaker.

Yes. the way it reads is that the free version is OS128 that ships with the screen and the only OS that 128XL can be installed from.

So it appears you will be able to run the large screen when you buy it but it will be more like the JJ free OS.
To get more of the features of OS2XL you will have to purchase OS128XL but give up the listed features.

The kick in the head is that a paid OS2XL user has to pay for anything.
It's currently a reduced version so how can you charge for a down grade?

To clarify a few things for everyone.

The 128OS to operate the Larger LCD screens comes FREE with the new Large XLCD. While some may see this as a downgrade from the OS2 or OS2XL, please note that not everyone currently has these paid JJ OS's installed on their MPCs. In fact, from the used MPCs we see in here for sales and service I would say only 5-10% of them have a PAID JJ OS. So for most people this will still be an upgrade when it comes to the OS.
For those that are current paid JJ OS users, not to worry the OS128XL will evolve. If you choose to wait for it to evolve before purchasing the LCD, that would be totally understandable.

As for the PAID OS pricing, the OS128XL is JJs work. We have no say in pricing or the paid OS functionality. We will try to find out some more info on the pricing structure and keep you updated. We also hope that a previous OS holders can get a discount on the new OS's but we are unsure. Keep in mind if JJ wasn't able to make money with the paid OSs he would not be doing them anymore and leave us all high and dry with the old releases. I totally understand that pricing can seem high, but IMO what he has offered is worth it.

As for some of the missing features from OS2XL: Please realize these features are missing from this ORIGINAL BETA version of the OS. We all know JJ always updates the OS and that is the fun of it (kind of). The OS WILL evolve. There will be a slight curve where you may see some things missing since this OS has been built from the ground up. Just hoping you guys will be a bit more patient before passing judgement when it comes to the PAID OS.

with all the respect.

in my opinion people who are likely to send an mpc to get it serviced by you are the same ones who most likely still use akai os n arent aware of jj or ones who use free version. and most likely these will be the same people who will ship out their mpcs to you to get their extra large screens installed.

people who use JJ paid version are ones likely to service their mpc on their own, including larger screen installation, rather than shippn it out and get it done.

up until this point I was pretty excited about the new screen and really dont mind using the free jj, but from financial n feature set point. it dont make sense for somebody with jjxl who spent $150 on os to be switchn to much more limited experience just to have larger screen.

from JJ's point of view I dont see him givn away premium JJXL features for free in the 128OS because that wouldnt be fair to him or users who paid for the full version.

I guess mpc stuff and JJ has to come up with some type of solution to this, because I can tell right now if I cant get all my features I paid $150 for in JJXL in 128OS version I aint buyn the screen until my next mpc or til you come up with a solution, no matter how nice it is, cuz from my point of view that's throwing money out the window for a feature that's more of a luxury than necessity.

on more positive note I really like the bigger screen n hope mpcstuff and JJ can come up with viable solution for both parties.

cant JJ inject support for larger screen into the paid version while developing 128OS with mpcstuff ? I mean sounds simple enough and would make everybody happy no ?

Yeah but it would also hurt your bottom line. I could be wrong but I think the people most likely to buy your screen are paid JJ users, and so this newsbreak puts us on the sideline until backwards compatibility and featureset are addressed.
