Technical questions for the MPC2000xl and the MPC2000

Hey everybody up on the forum!
Im happy to be here, as this seems the best source for mpc knowledge
On May 26, 20012, I aquired an MPC 2000xl MCD w/internal 250 zip, maxed out ram, 8 outs for a sweet deal at $425 on ebay.

after about a year of laying some ideas down with my mpd32 and mpk25 with recycle and ableton i found that all the mouse clicking and seemingly endless composition and software possibilities bogged me down. i wanted a sound that is collected while raw, warm while crisp, with a strong sequencer to put it all together. And so the MPC2000xl called to me.

Having it for a month or so of toying and reading, Ive been able to understand in their most basic rights, the buttons, menus, functions, and possibilities within the MPC. Though further knowledge will continue i feel i have a grasp of the trim modes, assigning to pads/creating programs, recording sequences, and setting up steps to create a song.

I have three questions which i would appreciate greatly from some knowledge from you guys!

1. Can i create a loop that isnt an exact number of bars?
this seems limiting and rather strange as many of my melodies have an incomplete bar (ie: an extra two beats) This also makes transitioning between steps (ie: intro to verse, verse to chorus) rather abrupt and unpleasant

2. How/What does the "track" parameter influence. Again i am a mere noob, and this function is mentioned little and doesnt clearly affect the way my sequences play out.

3. As a small note, how would i get my os to have the MPC200xl image boot up.
God how i wish JJ os would go back in time!

Thanks so much yall, i know its pretty lengthy
I appreciate all responses! :!:

1. yes.

Maybe double the resolution and make smaller bars that you can piece together in song mode.

2. tracks make up sequences, sequences make up a song.
seq1 - trk1 - kik
seq1 - trk2 - snr
seq1 - trk3 - tom
seq1 - trk4 - hhat

seq2 - trk1 - kik
seq2 - trk2 - snr
seq2 - trk3 - tom
seq3 - trk4 - hhat

In your mixer screen you can control basic mixer functions of each track.
Separation of sounds/tracks is good for mixing.

3. How is it booting up right now? 2kxl is supposed to be able to boot from rom. 2k classic requires a disk needed. Are you sure you have a 2kxl? Your screen able to tilt forward?

Thanks lamp!

So if i toy around with the res, it should allow for smoother looping, less gaps?

I think im starting to get tracks,

So ideally I should have the same sounds in multiple tracks within a sequence, to further mix and mute each track as wanted?

Also yes I do lol,
I realized i wrote that to be misleading i was aiming at how/if i could get this screen to appear. Maybe its already there and i don't know it aha

like seen here:

Resolution/pitch/tune/chopping/param envelope = niceness. Experiment.

Re-read what I wrote.
