well, that´s your problem dude. you take our criticism personal. don´t be a sissy. all we are trying to say is that the current os128xl is no option for us power users.

i guess we all understand that a lot of features had to go because of the poor cpu.

if those features come back that are crucial for my workflow i´ll happily buy one of your xl screens and the paid os128xl.

Damn... Lot of cold responses on here.
"Let JJ work his magic"
It wouldn't be the first time JJ pulled a rabbit out of his hat.
After responses like these, you'd have to be a fool to put anything out for this groups aproval.
We are part of a very select group that is very hard to please.
Don't bite the hand that is TRYING to feed you.
Also, to the people who don't want to pay JJ for yet another OS: Boo...

This is what I was referring to when I said it was getting political and walking a fine line.
Mike has got to avoid defending and mandating what are obvious failings.
Just get them resolved.

Don't turn it into Obahma Care by trying to bring us around to your perspective or what you are offering.

So what should really be happening is communicate to JJ the reality of what the users are saying so that we can get a more purposeful release of the screen and OS128XL.

We appreciate the effort but don't try to simply dismiss our concerns.
It's the only way that this can have a positive outcome.

READ again.
The problem is that to make use of larger views you have to use an OS that has less features than what we are currently using.
Paying for a new OS wasn't the major issue it.

Also these are not cold responses, they are simply the truth.

we'll have to wait and see. NDC built into GPE is pretty powerful.

exactly. each OS has been better than the last. i trust that this one will be, too, after a little work. os2 and os2xl weren't ideal out of the gate, either. remember the os2xl SIMULT issue? or how disappointed some were about os2 having only 3 layers instead of 4?

i don't profess to know the underpinnings of jjos CPU consumption, but perhaps the answer is in more modular program types as i mentioned in the jjos forum. frankly, i wouldn't mind having a program type with only 1 sample layer - i'll just simult everything!!

let's keep this professional and impersonal

Was thinking about that myself... Seems there would be positives and negatives. But the biggest thing would be bringing the machine closer to the ideal non-destructive chopping sampler. Where the start/end points actually belong to the program and not the sample. Think ASR... It would also mean you could do stuff like export sample to daw -> process with effects -> import to MPC, and still maintain chop points. Nice.

Although I'm not sold on that editing screen. Would much prefer it to look more like a sample editor.

I think you guys need to step back a bit and give Mike some credit here. He's releasing a larger screen for both MPCs, with a free OS installed that is a massive upgrade on the current free JJOS. That's the product he's offering on his site. For anyone using the current free OS, this is a very big, exciting deal.

As for the 'paid' OS128XL - this premium OS is JJ's department, it's an optional extra he's choosing to offer. Clearly there is more optimizing to be done on that, so I guess you guys will have to wait to see what JJ can do with it before you decide whether or not to pay for it.

All in all, this is a very very positive thing to happen to the MPC community, but the JJOS XL power users will have to accept that they are in an incredibly small niche and may have to wait it out to see if JJ can conjure up a like-for-like large screen paid OS for them.

this will come to no surprise to some of you:

Image
(leaked by james jeffrey)

i received an MPC2500 from MPC-stuff on Friday for beta testing purposes.
it came loaded with FREE jjos128, which is an upgrade from what is currently known as FREE JJOS.

i have been navigating it and searching for bugs, and at the same time getting a feel for the mpc2500. there are some very nice feature upgrades, so it will be a good upgrade for those running FREE JJOS.

i anticipate receiving JJOS128XL soon for more in depth testing.

the screen size is awesome. step edit has never looked better, i have to say. GPE is fantastic. record mode has its own realtime waveform - a nice touch - and some screens look the same as always.

i wanted to let you all know that as always, i have our collective best interests in mind. mike asked that i be unbiased, so trust that i too am looking for the very best product available.

more as it comes.
