I don't know first hand but I always heard people say that bias-peak was the closet thing to Sound Forge but it wasn't really on that same level. Either way, Sound Forge has been my go to editor for a long long while.

Cool Edit pro was "cool" then it became audition and got even "cooler" but it still doesn't have a smooth layout/interface feeling like SF does.
I DO like that audition had the flip switch of multitrack to 2channel editor and back.

Sound Forge shits on all the other sound editors I've used! With a teaser campaign like this I'm wondering what's coming...

what do u use a sound editor for? i mean personally (i know what they are capable of)

most of my sound editing happens during the music making process, i dont get why you would alter samples in something other that what you were making music with?

or do u guys use to mix tracks?

Same here, but nothing really beats the control you get over your 2 track in Sound Forge. It's especially good for mastering.

You can have a mastering chain of your 20 favourite plugins, then swap and change the order and rattle off a bunch of different masters and burn them to cd at Red Book standard, assuming you still bump cd's.

DAW's can also get a bit clunky when zooming right into a sound... If Sony has embraced multitouch in Lion I would expect to have pinch to zoom and all the other multitouch goodness you get with Mac. That's a big one for me because using a mouse these days is like trying to thread a needle while wearing boxing gloves!

You also get quick and easy ways to repair, chop, batch convert and analyse your audio.

There's also a fella called Burial who composes all his tracks in Sound Forge, so it shouldn't be dismissed as merely an 'editor'. :smoker:

That's limited thinking. Use whatever you enjoy using, whatever works for you, try other stuff.

^^^Can someone speak further about soundforge? Say I had Pro Tools already...What benefit does it give me to run soundforge on my system as well???

Lamp, you mentioned batch conversion....is this fairly intuitive? I need a decent batch converter/editor for making samples SP/MP comatible....Lately Ive been chopping samples in PT, and that shit kinda sucks...I have a hard drive loaded with samples and Ive never really messed with any of them because they are disorganized and in different formats...

Sorry, I could RTFM, but I like learning from users about specific benefits, I used soundforge a LONG time ago, but I cant really remember all of its functions and Im sure there are new implementations.

The batch processing in SF is nice and I am fine with it. I can't speak on whether you will like it or not. I've never used PT though so I don't have an answer for that.

Now you are fking with my emotions Coz! I hope this is true!
I totally miss using Sony Sound Forge and CD Architect since moving to a Mac. I knew the SF and CDA backwards, forwards and inside out.
I've got the older SF8 on my Bootcamp Win 7 partition but it's not the same as having it as a Mac application.

CD Architect went away but the features live on in Vegas. 8)

I've not used it, but I think you can essentially do the same as CD Architect in Sound Forge Pro 10.

I've seen screen shots that look closer to CDA but this one looks interesting anyway.
