can i have more than 1 program in my aps file?

hello people.

i have an mpc2000.

let me explain what i am trying to do and please can someone let me know if it can be done.

i created a program called hiphop_kit and saved it onto zip disk.
i created another program called electro_kit and saved it onto zip disk.
i loaded hiphop_kit and started sequencing some drums in sequence 1 using the sounds in this program.
i then decided i needed some electro drum hits so i loaded the electro_kit program.
so now in my program page i have hiphop_kit as Pgm1 and electro_kit as Pgm2.

All good so far. However.

After sequencing some drums on Tracks 1,2 & 3 of sequence 1 using the hiphop_kit program i wanted to lay some electro sounds on some other tracks in the same sequence. Now what i did was the following:

Went into program page and changed Pgm to electro_kit. when i now pressed the pads the electro sounds were triggered. All good i thought to myself. I then assumed that if I pressed play, the drums I had programmed would play using the hiphop_kit sounds and i would be able to lay sounds onto another track with sounds from the electro_kit.

However, when i pressed play, the tracks I had already sequence would play using the sounds of the electro_kit program. this was not the desired effect.

What I wanted was to playback the tracks i recorded using the program i recorded them with (hiphop_kit) and lay some sounds ontop on another track using sounds from the electro_kit program.

Is this possible on my mpc2000 and if so where am I going wrong?

What you need to do is create a third program that combines the sounds you need from the electro & hip hop kits that are specific to this sequence.

I'm guessing you are fairly new to this or you would have discovered it already. It sounds like your two programs are a good set of reliable sounds that obviously work well together, so it is good to save those as programs. You know where to find those sounds again & they are good starting points for writing with. However, once you do start working on a sequence you find that maybe you need to tune or filter these samples a bit differently, or change a few completely, so you start making new programs that are for specific sequences & songs.

thanks for getting back to me. i usually do save everything in the same program and therefore save everything as an APS file.

however does this mean that the mpc 2000 can never have more than 1 program playing at once?

i mean say for example i want to try some rhodes sounds in one of my songs and i have a rhodes program which took me hours to program (tune, filter, notes muting other notes, fx settings etc). can i not load my rhodes program into my song and play the sounds in that prgram over my song. surely i'm don't have to recreate that program from scratch within my current program.

again, your help is much needed.

If I'm remembering correctly the 2k can only access 1 program
at a time.

It's not like the XL in this case...

Unfortunately the MPC2000 does play only one Program at once. You can have as many programs loaded as you've got RAM to hold them so you can combine them into new ones.
Also, you can copy sounds with all their tunings between programs, so for example you might have set up a basic drum kit with a kick, snare & open & closed hat. You then want to add you Rhodes program. What it would be best to do is load your Rhodes program. Copy it to a new program so you don't risk messing up the original. Then copy the drum kits sounds to the new Rhodes program.
