but i have a computer, the idea of using one to make beats is **** since i work on one all day.

i'm a computer tech at a high school. i spend all day behind a desk - it is a miracle of science that i am not a gigantic fat slob haha.

properly integrated, you forget you're even using the computer, plus you end up with irreplaceably valuable audio/technical skills by becoming familiar with DAW software and the VSTi format.

i started making beats with DAWs and VSTi's mang.

i have a HDD with about 17 gig of Native Instruments goodness.

What i would be interested in though Nym, is having my mpc traking out not audio but midi into a daw and having the daw playback my mpc.

that way i could just record midi for days, edit it all in the box, and still bounce from the mp when im done.

2500 or 1K with JJ OSXL is the way to go. Because when you use the MP to midi control your DAW you can use JJ's Arpeggiator and Chord mode. Also it's real easy to transfer audio files to and from the MP and CPU.

I have no way to validate this test personally, but you can check out this mpc1k and 2k sound comparison gearslutz topic: Akai MPC2000 vs MPC 1000, the truth.
conclusion: the same samples played on mpc2k with filter resonance set to 0 will sound a bit more like using the 1k with filter resonance set to 1. So just use a resonance of 1 if you want the 1k to sound like the 2k. (very slight difference)

The only thing Id really miss going from the 2k to the 1k is the 8 individual outputs. other than that I don't see any reason the 2k could be better that 1k.
