Not easy to distinguish between top 5 and the other 4 that I came up with.

Top 5 right now:

Nujabes - Metaphorical Music
Nas - Illmatic
Black Star - Mos Def and Talib Qweli are Black Star
Fat Jon - Lightweight Heavy
Flying Lotus - Cosmogramma

Reason : this album was a factor in my high school days,,, had it on cd & cassette, NOW
this album was a packed story ( funny as hell ), entirely produced by joe " the butcher " nicolo which was way ahead of its time in thee beat department. An political, drugged charged lyrics that punches u right after thee 1st skit. I was on a serious acid trip when i first heard this l.p, which enhanced thee sound by 50 times. No matter how thee tempo of thee song was goin or when thee skits started, it had u on u wantin more. 25 tracks
(14 songs-11 skits ), with tracks like : T.V Cops, Aaah D Yaaa, Ru Down wit da Goats,
to name a few had thee beats thumpin like crazy thru thee headphones, & any good boomin systems. Was it a hip-hop impact on thee industry ? Hell no, but if u like music with a concept behind it ( like myself ) & serious bang of beats & it doesn't sound like every thing else ( like nowadays ),,,, check this Lp,

Word the f@$k up! Although I'm really really disappointed in that Rebirth of Detroit album that just dropped. I'm trying real hard to love it but I just can't.

Definitely a lot of good responses... I still can't narrow my list because albums keep getting released that seem to climb the top of my list (i.e. fiona apple's new album "the idler wheel...")

I heard about that? I haven't listen to it though, why the disappointment? Was it actual Dilla beats? Or more like a tribute to him by a bunch of Detroit artist?


They're all Dilla beats apart from which was co-produced with Amp Fiddler. The beats are good, it's the artists that have let them down.

They've used all Detroit artists but no Elzhi. Guilty Simpson is on one joint. Most the cats I haven't heard (their music) before.

Also one of the beats were used on Jay Stay Paid and a few others I already has from his beat tapes.

And to top it off the physical copy just seems rushed with not a lot of thought put into it.

You may think otherwise dude though so don't let me put you off

Ima chck it out but how can it not have Elzhi on it though? Makes no sense.

To be fair Skywalker I didn't even pick up on it not having Elzhi, someone else did in another thread.

I couldn't understand why Black Thought, Common, Busta (you know, hot MCs who were really good friends with him) werent on it? T3 too. Lemme know what you thought of it dude. It might be a grower but I have my doubts.


Also copped Houseshoes' new album, Let It Go, obviously heavily Influenced by Dilla. Quite liking this one, got better guest spots on. Worth a peep for sure mate.
